Ohhh yeah Botswana's 10% growth is such a failure. Good god, all the development in Lagos is just so illustrative of regression. is that Kagame doing anything right? Worst place in the world. No one wants to go to Malawi, or Kenya, or Tanzania. By contrast, everywhere in South America is doing so well. Yep, no gargantuan income inequality in Brazil. No governmental instability in Bolivia. No insane crime rate in Caracas, Venezuela. And East Asia, I mean who doesn't dream of Cambodia and Mongolia?

Just curious, what, if anything, do you actually know about Africa?

I'll answer for him since its apparent: Nothing.

Why do so many posters here think others are stupid and can't see through generalizations?

To me one of the most interesting stories coming out of Africa today is the reconciliation of the Tutsis and Hutus after the almost inconceivably violent massacres in Rwanda 15 years ago. Now neighbors who slaughtered each others' families are living side by side nonviolently and cooperatively thanks to an aggressive government program of "truth-telling" tribunals and a resurgence of economic growth and optimism. Frankly, I can't see anything like that level of reconciliation ever happening in the U.S. if we ever needed it. Thank goodness we don't (yet). Hell, people are still fighting the civil war here.

I know that the average sub-Saharan African has an IQ of about 70. That's as dumb as a brick, my friend!

I'd say any continent/country of people that is "smoking" my tax dollars deserves to have the spigot cut off.

The average American IQ is only 98..For a continent that is still largely populated by people who live without formal education and have experienced genocide, aparthied and white settlers usurping governments, Africans are doing pretty good.

And I'm sure that malnutrition and that fact that so many African kids never even see the inside of classroom (nevermind the majority that go to school, but have to leave before they even reach high school age) has absolutely nothing to do with it.

The bottom line is that there is a very sad situation in Africa. Hopelessness can generate a lot of abuse. I wish the continent would get its act together for their own good.
