Would Green Day's rendition of Working class hero be subversive with the words about sex, drugs, religion and TV ?

Rather sad that the audience is not seen as adult enough to hear all the words of the song.
Would the irony of this song miss most ?

The only thing censored was the f-word -- every important thought was left intact. Is that the irony you mean?

I dont know if anyone had ever performed it on US TV. It NEVER would have been broadcast in Lennon's day. Good for Green Day.
