A split between Red and Blue States? Nah, both collectivist tyrants, we already have that country. A split between free and Collectivist States? Absolutely!
New drinking game everyone. Everytime irspow says collectivist, take a drink. You'll be hammered in no time.
You just attributed my quote to your name! (See how easy it is, it looks correct when you're typing the post but comes out differently once it shows up)
Then I will say I am sorry because I always look at what I have quoted before I post it.
I'd vote for California secession, but that's it. I don't know how the U.S. could easily be split up. It certainly wouldn't be easy to do since the liberal and conservatives areas aren't all clustered together.

The northern half should be given to people who love government control of other peoples lives (includes many democrats and republicans), they can be close to their friends from Canada , or even merge together.
The southern half should be given to people who love individual freedom and to the people that don't want to manage other peoples behaviors. These people will actually let Mexicans come over when they want, and because this government won't have any income tax or federal regulations on businesses, it won't matter that they are coming... the businesses will actually love all the new customers and workers.
The south would strive, while the North would have 135 people from their gov't socialistic system working on putting one light bulb in someones house.
So much of America is divided into the 'red' or 'blue' ideal frames of thought. Each side hates the other, and thinks the other is not only unintelligent, but out to get them.
The days of independents and centrist seem to be gone. If a person does not pick a side in every debate, a side picks them (or at least treats them as members of the other)
So (in an imaginary hypothetical sense), would the best thing for America be an ideological split?
If so, how would that happen? By population? By State? A simply geographic split?
I think Americans have most things in common yet we choose to focus on what divides us. During times of crisis, we come together.
I think your other question is more important. Why are people so divided. There are not many on this forum who I can say truly has a variety of opinions that encompass both sides. What's funny is when I respond to various threads, I'm immediately called a liberal or a right winger depending on who I disagree with that. People are too afraid to think for themselves and disagree with their own party. I'm a conservative Republican but I have no problem accusing the Birthers, the Glenn Beck zealots and other extremists they are insane. I wish there were more centrists on this site

No kidding. Today I had someone accuse me of being a conservative militia nut, and I had someone else accuse me of being an extremist liberal.
I guess if someone doesn't agree with them, they can lump them into some mundane category, thus marginalizing them and feel better about their own narrow minded views.
Ahhhh. For such a rich, cultured and powerful country the USA can be quite ignorant in some ways.

The divide is more of an issue between urban and rural/suburban areas. It also correlates more with race than with geography. The majority of whites did NOT vote for Obama in the last election...
I say we work out a swap with Canada. They get New England in exchange for Alberta and maybe Saskatchewan and interior BC. Maybe we can throw in Cascadia to seal the deal.
F*** you BC and Alberta stays. Take Saskatchewan northern part of it (Saskaton and above.)
