Since late 2008, the government has given automakers $80 BILLION to keep them afloat. The premise behind such gratuity was to save jobs and the auto industry in general. However, Chrysler is now in bankruptcy and GM's bankruptcy is imminent. The result? An estimated 200,000 jobs will be cut through plant closings, dealership closings, and part suppliers' bad luck.

$80,000,000,000 / 304,059,724 U.S Population = $263 per person.

For that many lost jobs and an industry that is now owned by the taxpayer and unions, i'd say my money has been wasted.

I will vote against my federal and state politicians in the next re-election because of this. American's - other than the Unions - knew that bailing out the auto industry was a lost cause, but somehow our elected officials didn't trust us. If they can't exercise prudent fiscal foresight, then they don't deserve to be in office.

The 2010 Electoral Clock is ticking.

If there is a Libertarian up for any elected office that you can vote for, then vote for him/her.

If a libertain had been elected( no chance really) then we would be in a recession now with the banks collapsed. They bascially had no plan to do anyhting and people have to realise that there were thign s that needed done. The government can let the banks payabck the money now and we are alot better off than having another great depression. But then the libertain party has no power in either house so tehy would have over rode any veteo easily to do what they both agreed on.

hey, at least they meant well

the fear was that a bankruptcy would cause massive havoc with the economy, so they spent tens of billions in federal money to prevent it, yet failed.

this is what liberals refer to as the best of both worlds.

But if the automakers hadn't been bailed out,it would have been MUCH worse...

GM and Chrysler might have gone bankrupt a few months earlier....
