The Associated Press: Looks like a night on Broadway for first couple

Quote:
For the evening, the first couple jetted to New York City for date night. A Broadway show and probably dinner were on tap.

The White House refused to say how much the trip was costing taxpayers.
Country in recession, GM declaring bankrupcy, millions have lost their jobs, millions struggling to pay their bills and keep their houses, obama spending trillions that we can't afford - "Everyone's going to have to give. Everyone's going to have to have some skin in the game." So says Obama.

Except of course for he and his wife. That's really the priority for obama - to be seen and admired. Disgusting, completely out of touch with reality.

I went out to dinner last night too, and I won't apologize to anyone who can't afford to.

Good for you. However, you're not spending other peoples money to do it. You are also not preaching about "shared sacrifice" and "shared pain" while enjoying yourself, not to mention wasting resources, at taxpayers expense.

See the difference?

THEY surely don't see the difference and they don't look at the fact that they flew Marine 1 to the plane that flew them to NYC and back. Also, they held up traffic in NYC to get to the destination. How many Secret Service men had to travel with them?

Wouldn't it be nice to have the people of the nation to pay for a real big date on the town? I guess that couple is about the only one around that can do it, though. I wonder how many homeless people could have been fed with the money spent on this caper.

There will probably never be an official amount of money spent on this date allowed to get to the public. Why would that be?

We know they didn't spend one penny of their own money although they do have much more than most of us that is their own.

I'm all for the couple going out and blowing off some steam, but for gods sake exercise some prudence after preaching fiscal responsibility to an entire nation.
He is behaving like one of those "arrogant Americans" he has referred to in the past.

I seriously doubt he did anything precedent-setting. Look at all of Bush's trips to Crawford, TX, Reagan's to CA, etc. Most presidents have some sort of "alternate" White House they retreat to, e.g. Nixon's "Western White House" in California. If he was spending his own money on the "date", why do you guys care so much?

Really, what does this have to do with GM declaring bankruptcy? They ran the company into the ground. Is that Obama's fault? How many of you are giving up nights out with your spouse to feed the hungry, bail out GM, help someone else with their mortgage and other bills? Show of hands, please!
