You're asking two different questions, based on the thread title and the question in your post.
I probably would have still chosen Barr as McCain is a weak candidate.
That said, McCain would have been better than Obama (which doesn't say much). He would not spend, borrow or tax as much. Nor would he support a Government takeover of GM, Chrysler and (eventually) the Healthcare industry. He'd also have nominated a more originalist person for SCOTUS, having voted down Sotomayor when Clinton appointed her.
No, not even if he had a different VP, although he would've done better in the popular vote with a different VP and there are many Americans who would vote for him today with a different VP.
Everything that's happening now would have happened under McCain, with the difference that there would have been total gridlock in a time of crisis, as McCain would have appointed his Congressional buddies to the Cabinet and would have few friends left in Congress. He would've had fewer friends in Congress than any president since Grant.
The OP asked who you would vote for today.
We all know when the election was and who won.
Thanx!

I think his pick as VP ruined his chances and he probably wouldn't make that mistake again today.
Absolutely right!

Without wishing to be rude, this is a pointless question.
Just get on with things.
