I find it mildly counterproductive that he's trying every avenue to secure their release as he debates whether or not to intercept their merchant ships. Obama, he's such a prankster!

For the sake of those two ladies, I hope that he is able to work something out.
I can only imagine what must be going through their minds right now. Believe me, it's not good.
Let's hope the Administration is successful. 12 years of hard labor in North Korea would be a nightmare.
The Administration has enlisted the aid of Bill Richardson, who apparently has some experience with North Korea.
I apologize for having no news link, because I cannot find one. I just heard this on the radio.
I think that NK is using this as a bargaining "chip" so to speak. These people are really beginning to get on my nerves!
Its so simple to get them released. We tell them its ok to have Nukes and we will start sending them food again.
I will not be surpised if he does just that

No nukes... No way...
I hope they pursue every opportunity available. Can you imagine what these women are going through? Put yourselves in their shoes; I would be terrified.

Can't we send them a shipment of food with a nuke? They NEED both right?
A court in North Korea has sentenced two US journalists to 12 years' hard labour, state media say.Euna Lee and Laura Ling were found guilty of "hostile acts" and illegal entry into the communist state.
They were arrested in March after allegedly crossing into North Korea from China.
The US said it was "deeply concerned" by the sentence and called for the release of the two women on humanitarian grounds.
These two journalists are now officially bargaining chips. Kim Jong-Il is not known for his generosity. I highly doubt these two people are coming home anytime soon unless North Korea get's something big out of the deal. With the looming possible sanctions from the UN over it's nuke tests, i'd reconcile these two individuals better get used to wearing work gloves (if they even get those!). North Korea has very little to gain by releasing them. I guess we'll see what happens.
I've watched Laura Ling's (one of the two women detained) TV programs before. It's on one of those obscure channels that I found while surfing the cable. She does documentary reporting, the kind that takes her to faraway/dangerous places on sensitive issues, although not yet on Christian Amanpour's level. On the program I watched, she had a close run-in with one local thug in China who's not happy to see her camera while doing a documentary on China's electronic recycling practices. So this North Korea snafu, although the most serious situation she's been into, is probably not the first frightening encounter she had.
It makes me wonder the kind of obligation the employer has for sending their reporters to a place like North Korea. At this juncture, there's probably not much hope for these women without government intervention.
