He and others realize that if Obama got too involved it will come off to the Iranian gov't as U.S meddling and give them reason to call the upheaval U.S backed etc.

I dont understand why people cant grasp this. They're stuck in weird action-figure fantasies and just insist on staying in there.

Because they're too eager to use this as an example of Obama being inexperienced with international affairs to see that he may actually be taking a reasonable approach to this situation.

Because some of these people would gladly see the entire world go up in flames if they could get 5 minutes of partisan rhetoric out of it.

You are exactly 100% right. Imagine what would be the reaction in this country if, in the 1950s, the USSR started meddling in our elections and taking sides. Same thing.
