NEW YORK — Official Major League Baseball caps blatantly featuring colors and symbols for some of America's deadliest street gangs are turning up on store shelves in Harlem, MyFOXNY.com reported Friday.
Outraged local activists charge that New Era, the caps' manufacturer, and the New York Yankees — whose famous interlocking NY cap features a choice of a red and black bandanna design for the Bloods, blue and gray for the Crips and a gold crown for the Latin Kings — and Major League Baseball are deliberately marketing to gang members and wannabes.
I can see how those hats are gang related, and could possibly start beef between rival gangs.I just hope they don't try and start banning any New Era hat that isn't the actual color of a sports team.I happen to buy Fitted New Era caps that aren't the actual colors for the sports teams. Most New Era caps aren't gang related. But I can definetly see how those three hats are.I don't think you can make someone pull them off the shelves though.Thats thier right to sell them, and if the people selling them don't fell they are gang related than they should still be able to sell them.
Well back in the day in the burgh you could always tell what gang hood you were in by going in the bar. If they had blue bull you were in a crip hood, if they red bull you were in a blood hood.
Supposedly the most ruthless and violent of all the new gangs, The Flamingos, wear these hats. But interestingly enough, they are also involved in the Bronx Botanical Gardens and various aspects of community theater.

MLB is rapaciously greedy but I dont think they would have gotten involved in this.
