I think Nixon was one of those people who had the strong characteristics of a leader, but had significant moral issues. It is actually rather disgusting to hear some of the things from the recordings, but then again racism would have been alive and well when Nixon was growing up, so I would not entirely put the blame on the man himself.. Every leader has the flaw that ultimately drags them down, for Nixon it was the racism, anti-semanticist, and overall bitterness towards so many people. 30+ years later and I am still perplexed by his landslide election and subsequent re-election.
And I am a Republican, ashamed of Nixon's character, but somewhat supportive of some of his accomplishments during his presidency.

I am not ashamed. I don't have to take responsibility for every psycho and idiot out there just because they call themselves republicans.
That's like every white person taking responsibility for Manson or Dahmer or something. Gimme a break.
Bring back Dave Chappelle's racial draft!
