I am more worried about my kids being close-minded and cruel than I am about them watching a parade.
Exactly. When I was about 21 or so, a lesbian and a gay man who shared an apartment were both killed about three blocks from where I was living. Two young men were tried and convicted of their murders. The only motivation was their orientation. Perhaps if these young men had been raised properly, two people would still be alive and they wouldn't be spending their lives in prison.
I know a lot of African-American black people but pride and glbt political activism is low on their list of priorities.
It's hard to make someone care about that when they feel their own families will disown them if they come out.
In some cities there is Black Pride which is cool.....
I might be attending the Black Pride in my city.
The gay community is a microcosm of the rest of America. There is racism, classism, sexism, etc.
