In practice, they just arrest anyone who's extremely drunk.

Again, Texas law does not require them to be endagering others - they only have to have the potential to endanger others.

I take it you're okay with these "bar checks" to make sure no one is breaking the law?

To make sure the bar is not serving to intoxicated people or minors and to arrest bar patrons for public intoxication if necessary. They're generally conducted by the TABC.

That said, the Fort Worth Police have started a huge public intoxication crackdown - so they may have actually been the ones conducting the raid and the focus may have been more on the patrons than the bar.

I agree; it seems an unlikely coincidence that it would happen on the exact
date...it's too reminiscent of incidents being planned for Hitler's birthday, April 20th. And odd that the police were so violent with the patrons, as well.
BTW, a pox on your airport! It's insane! Switching flights there once with
several people who were on the same flight from St. Louis to Denver..none of us could decipher where our gate was. The little tram door opens for more passengers & there stands a pilot...the priest next to me reached out, grabbed his shirt and pulled him in with us! Our hostage gave us easy
directions, and all was well! Too funny!

That describes and person at any time he or she is awake.

True, but the potential has to be relatively high and caused by their intoxication.

No one really cares to fight these charges. All they do is simply go to jail, sleep it off, get out the next morning, and pay about a $200 fine. That's it.

Time will tell, of course. But if it's found that the cops were negligent in the way they handled the situation, will you accept that decision, or will you continue to defend the cops who are found guilty?

Yeah, I can just hear the howls if they had tasered a bar full of gays.
Instead, they're hearing howls for putting someone in the hospital with a fractured skull. Brilliant.

Reminds me of the Ron White joke about being arrested for public intoxication. But seriously, this is unbloodybelievable. Do the cops in Texas have a different calendar than the rest of the country? Has anyone dropped them the hint that this is 2009 and NOT 1909?

Which is impossible to prove.

Yup, but read the law - may is the key word. It's a bad law, but it is enforced.
