I see... So, if it's good for both the police and the military, military members should get quite a high pay increase. For example, around $45K a year for a new recruit, and time-and one-half for working holidays or over-time, plus six weeks of leave per year. How about giving each military member a Hummer, or maybe a tank to drive back and forth? How about wages for being on stand-by?
Starting officers in the military make more money than a lot of cops do. And I use officers as a reference because those standards are more similar to law enforcement standards than enlisted stndards are. $33k a year is an average starting salary for a cop here in Florida, and I believe that is similar to an O-1.
Cops live in the civilian world. A lot of expenses that are "taken care" of in the military are not in law enforcement. In terms of overall compensation, the two aren't very far off.
Wages for being on standby? You can't seriously be bashing law enforcement for that and saying the military doesn't get that. What the heck do you think the Reserves and National Guard are for?!?!
"listen soldier, we don't have a problem with you being blown to bits but smoking will kill you!"
and our rights keep slipping away. With enough liberals in office they will soon be telling us how to mount our toilet paper on the spindle and how to wipe our backside. Wake up people!
Military is known for heavy smokers and dippers....
Let it be!
These democrats will not be satisfied until they control everything, even the air you breath. Oh wait, they are already trying to do that. If they have their way we will have to buy carbon credits to breath.
They already gave the San Diego Zoo 8 millions for a monkey project and discovered those certain
monkeys were not coming after the thought.......real nice
Bring all the troops home? Then what? Are you going to create jobs to employ the troops, or are you just going let them stay home and gate paid for it? Are you going to bring them home and let them get in the unemployment lines?
It's not illegal to chew, smoke, and drink on break times, or when the troops leave at the end of the shift.
You'd rather have them put in harms way just to keep them employed?
Man, that's one sick viewpoint.
Why not just shoot them yourself?
That would fix the problem of too many people.
Are you anti-choice, too?
That would add to the number of unwanted and unemployed.
So, are you using the military as welfare?
Interesting view.
I understand that. But under the UCMJ, if one sees any activity that's illegal, one has to tell the chain of command. For example, if I know of any criminal activity (sexual harassment, sexual activity, use of illegal drugs, open homosexuality, child pornography, anything done by an active military member that diminish the military image, and so on), I must report the activity.
And you know that they don't tell on anything that benefits them, they don't narc on their supervisors or people who write their AERs, they don't narc on extramarital affairs.
I don't know what fairyland you live in, but it's not reality.
There is a big difference between what you're supposed to do and what actually occurs.

Wait a minute here...don't put this all on the Democrats! Last time I checked most military (most, not all) were Republican voters. I find it's the Republicans who try to over nannify (is that a word?!) this country. I am a democrat and am completely against this "ban", thank you very much.
In reality there isn't any health care for retired members, unless they retire under a medical condition, or elect to pay for a portion of the cost for the medical care. I could apply for Tri-Care, for example, but since my employer pays for a great portion of my health care, I have elected to pay for Blue Cross/Blue Shield instead of Tri-Care. I have a lot more choices under my present health care. For example, I can choose to travel to any other State in case of life and death, and to choose the best specialists available. Not so under Tri-Care or VA, unless one already leaves in a city where such specialists are available. In this case, the military allows for it. However, once Tri-Care or the VA Hospital decide that they must send you to a specialist at another State, they usually take care of things for you. But it sometimes takes quite a lot of time. For example, they may argue on a simple Cat Scan for hours and days sometimes.
Almost forgot: as an active military member, I was taken care off at the military hospitals and clinics, free of charge. For the care of my dependents, however, military members must pay a portion of the cost of Tri-Care. If I had to go to the hospital, I could not choose a specialist, doctor, etc. I was seeing by whoever technician, PA, or doctor available.
Tri-care is no different from other health plans but is much cheaper. You have to schedule appointments for care, if you can't get to your PCP, you need to see a PA or other person who can provide service. You have to be referred to other doctors not within the system. There's no real difference.
The entire military is socialism.
Inter-racial marriages were first accepted and commonplace in the military environment.
Military gets free health care, that's one reason why they have so many kids; their formula and diapers are subsidized by MWR/Commissaries.
If they're not worth having, how about we just discontinue retiree health benefits for the military.
