Of course that is just one of those 'damn red states' so I doubt anyone cares.
Oh, puleeze. The F-22 project was purposefully contracted to companies in 44 damned states. The biggest loser in Connecticut and the last time I checked Connecticut wasn't very red.
Good. What gets me are the 40 Senators that voted to keep the funding. WTF? These F-22 planes were designed to fight the Soviet Union, yeah the same Soviet Union that collapsed 20 years ago. It is made for air to air combat and it can't strike anything of the ground. Did I miss something here? Did the Soviet Union become a superpower again? I think we all know the answer to that. I can only see 2 reasons why anyone would support spending almost $2 billion for these useless planes:
1) The Senator owes Lockheed Martin a favor for past campaign donations and they voted no in order to line executive's pockets with taxpayer money.
2) The deal would create jobs in their state.
#1 is a ridiculous reason to vote for an F-22, or anything for that matter, but is unfortunately very common in the dirty, filthy, corrupt world of American politics. As for #2, I hear those of you who are saying that we need jobs and these F-22 contracts will create jobs. However, if we are going to build something with taxpayer money in order to create jobs, why not build something that we NEED as opposed to something that is useless?
The United States' top fighter jet, the Lockheed Martin F-22, has recently required more than 30 hours of maintenance for every hour in the skies, pushing its hourly cost of flying to more than $44,000, a far higher figure than for the warplane it replaces, confidential Pentagon test results show.
The aircraft's radar-absorbing metallic skin is the principal cause of its maintenance troubles, with unexpected shortcomings -- such as vulnerability to rain and other abrasion -- challenging Air Force and contractor technicians since the mid-1990s, according to Pentagon officials, internal documents and a former engineer.
Hell no. The technology is too advanced on the F-22, which has warranted an export ban. However, there were plans to sell watered down versions to Japan..
Whether or not people support the F-22, this move will cost roughly 100K jobs in Georgia.. Of course that is just one of those 'damn red states' so I doubt anyone cares.
You need to change your supposed "moderate" title. That was extremely partisan. It is well known that the defense industry sprinkles its jobs around so that legislators all around see an economic interest in supporting it.
Also, are jobs really an excuse to make an F-22? Jobs can be created a million ways. But we are against waste and for efficient gov't, are we not?
