I am willing to give up the following:
1. Free healthcare for elected reps.
2. Free lease cars for elected reps.
3. Free Secret service protection for former US Presidents.
4. Air conditioned prisons.
5. Creature comforts of any kind in prisons.
6. DNA testing on Bears
7. Foreign aid until we can balance the books and get us back in the black.
Pensions for "elected" officials. Shouldn't be a "job for life" to begin with.

PS- 11. Bonus point for "inflation tax" - A la Federal Reserve
The top two choices (1) and (2) would save me more than 8,000-9,000 a year if i stopped paying into them. The others like sales tax, corp tax, farming subsidies, tariffs, and etc are a little harder to quantity, because they are often "hidden taxes."
Anyway, which government programs are you willing to give up for lower taxes?
Give up 3 through 6, and while we're at it, eliminate the deduction for churches and religious organizations, but keep it for charities like Red Cross, Goodwill, Cancer Society, and such. No need to subsidize religion, more and more of them are scams.

Wouldn't that essentially just turn private schools into public schools in the end? Sounds to me like it's just moving a problem instead of solving it.
I take issue with the thread title. It should read "social programs," not socialist programs.
I guess the word "socialist/ism" has been misused for so long that people today associate socialism with any government program.
