I would add Israel to the list:
List of Israeli inventions and discoveries - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In particular note-worthy amongst many other innovations are USB flash drives & ICQ instant messaging software (which is first instant messaging system) which are inventions that are used in many people's every day lives all over the world.

I came across this little statistic, "A study by MITI - Japan's equivalent of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) - concluded that 54% of the world's most important inventions were British. Of the rest, 25% were American and 5% Japanese."

I would also like to point out that quite a few of the most widely played sports in the world originated in Britain, i.e. Football, Rugby, Cricket, Tennis and many more.

Sorry, one final post...

Ultimately it matters not which country made any specific 'contribution' as long as they were made. Each and every contribution is an achievement for all of mankind. We all have a duty to be the best that we can and to use our time on this planet learn as much as we can.

As my dear old mother would say, "curiosity didn't kill the cat, but the dodgy next door neighbor might of done!"
