So why are the Democrats, who are supposed to represent the people, not even listening? Why are they so determined to force it on us?

Well, actually a large percentage of teh population agrees that SOME KIND of health care reform IS necessary....

The Dems can't put ONE plan out there to be judged right now, and the Reps are doing a great job of spreading misinformation about what ANY of the five available plans are proposing to do....

UHC is clearly being opposed by the wealthy and those whose interests are tied to the for profit health care industry! They are spreading blatant lies to "scare" those who would be much better off under a UHC, approximately 80 % of the (legal) population, and those who, through less than thorough education, or reasoning ability, are easily swayed by untrue but emotional arguments! Many of the people (the real "grass roots" portion) of the opposition to UHC, would be dramatically better off, personally, under a UHC system! Any defeat of the current, compromise bill that is being considered, will be deleterious to the great majority of working families in this country, and will continue to "line the pockets" of health care and pharma executives, to the detriment of the rest of us. . . . read the bill, look at the facts, then tell me what your objections are!

Yes it is being opposed so it seems. Therefore the Democrats are going to have to negotiate for a happy medium, one where all can live with the outcome.

However some on the Republican side don't want to listen either, some seem to refuse to accept that there are problems in the health care status and that free market/capitalism isn't working in some ways in the industry. They too are going to have to negotiate and that means perhaps accepting some government involvement to reform the system.

Their ideology precludes them from listening. They presume to know better than the electorate. This is exemplified in this quote by Andrea Mitchell:

Quote:
"You've got 47% of the people in our NBC/Wall Street Journal opinion poll who have health insurance who don't like what the president is doing. The problem he's got -- 47% of the people who've got coverage don't want change. They don't like what they're hearing. Now, they may not know what's good for them, but the problem is that he always knew he was going to have to persuade people with insurance, that's the largest number, not the people without insurance, for expanded coverage. So they've got a real problem."

Democrats were elected to represent the majority that elected them in their respective districts. And in their respective districts, the majority that elected them most likely support this extremely moderate version of UHC that this bill will most likely be based on.

Surely you do not think that these "town halls" are a correct representation of their districts, do you? Of course most people who support the proposed plan are not going to show up to ask questions. Only the hardcore protesters will. Doesn't mean the rest of the population carries the views.

UHC is not being proposed...a public option is.

Furthermore, although a segment of the population may oppose the proposed healthcare reform legislation, a larger percentage of the population knows that this country truly, desperately needs it, and are not opposed to a public option.

Yeah, the part of the population speculating in health Insurance company futures. The rest of us do not care for for insurance companies. They deserve to have their hands taken out of the cookie jar.

Is it not telling that these town hall meeting protesters and such act just like those who attended the McCain/Palin rallies? Did anyone really think this portion of America would support this legislation? lol

How do you know? You have people who could just be the vocal minority picking fights and screaming at the top of their lungs. Town halls are pulling in hundreds of people, but in a city of millions that's not a great percentage. They should put the vote to everyone and see how it goes, not just two small groups of people picking fights.
