The system is collapsing? Is this based on your first-hand knowledge?

As for "happy".... I don't think they area that happy. They have a very very high suicide rate.
You don't "think" they are that happy? If Denmark has a "very very high suicide rate", then the US also has a "very very high suicide rate", because our suicide rate isn't far behind them. Back in 1980, Denmark did have a very high suicide rate (34 per 100,000 people), but that has been drastically reduced. Now, their suicide rate is close to the level of the US. Regardless, suicide rate is not a good indicator of happiness. Iran has one of the lowest suicide rates in the world. Do you think Iranians are happy, Nirvana-Guy?

If you want an example of a country with a "very very high suicide rate", look at Russia or Lithuania. They have suicide rates that are 3-4 times higher than the US. Denmark does not.

Happiness does not come from having things or being lazy all day at home, as a lot of people are in Socialist countries. Happiness comes from within. The liberal Danish policy of drug-use and liberal mentality is a major contributing factor to the sucide rate there too.
Policy of drug use? What? You have no idea what you're talking about. Decriminalizing is not the same as encouraging. Tobacco is not criminalized in the US. Is smoking encouraged in the US? You pseudo-logic is not working, Nirvana-Guy.

Check out this article from a Psychologists association:

http://www.pep-web.org/images/logo.jpg (broken link)

The point of departure of this interesting and challenging study is a statistical one, the well-known fact of the high suicidal rate in Denmark and Sweden and the perhaps less well-known one of the comparatively low rate in Norway. Hendin, a follower of Kardiner's interest in cross-cultural studies, saw an important opportunity to study and compare what he calls the psychosocial character of three closely related and relatively homogenous societies and at the same time scrutinize subtle differences in parental attitudes in the three Scandinavian countries. His hope obviously was that the discovery of these differences may shed some light on the discrepancy between the Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian suicide rates.

http://www.pep-web.org/document.php?id=paq.034.0111a
Norway's suicide rate is slightly lower than the US, which is slightly lower than Denmarks. Like I said earlier, Iran has a FAR lower suicide rate than any of these countries. Is suicide a reliable indicator of happiness? It doesn't look like it to me.

Nirvana-Guy, you're using half truths and twisting facts because you have an agenda. Your agenda is to demonize Denmark because you disagree with their ideology. They are "evil liberals" in your eyes. So you are grasping at straws, trying to show how their society is flawed. This might fool your fellow sheep, but it does not fool me. You are exposed.

Denmark and western Europe all have a higher quality of life then the USA
yes, most of it is based on health care (it's free) They may have gay marriage, and liberal pot laws- and 'high crime' but considering they have very tight gun laws I would be most interested to see where that crime is coming from

however- Some great American cities, like St Louis MO and Phoenix AZ two cities with among the highest murder rates via guns on the planet.

Health care and well being- well Denmark and Western Europe ALL have lower rates of cancer and stress related diseases (Coronary) and lower infant mortality rates then the USA- in fact much lower- as well as a higher life expectancy rate.

Guess these dumb stupid Americans have something to learn.

Hmm first thing after I read that is I'm moving to Denmark! However, you guys CANNOT say whatever you want. If you stand up against Muslims invading your country and raping your women, you're called a big 'racist" Again the racist boogeyman. Racists are responsible for all the evil in the world, right?!!

I don't see the system going on for more than 50 years. If you allow people who don't respect your culture or way of life to come in and start changing over to Shariah law and enforcing your culture, having tons of babies and outbreeding you, you're not going to exist as a separate entity anymore!

I would like to know what you base your remark on "Europe has a higher qualtity of life". Please enlighten us. Such a subjective remark.

But for me, when I can walk my dog in my 1/2 acre wooded and grassed back yard (not small grass patch in front of a concrete row apartment), when I can drive my 400 horsepower musclecar to the local dragstrip (not my vespa scooter on the autobahn), when I can go out to a supermarket at 11PM at night and choose one of 15 brands of salsa (not one brand of german ketchup), when I can rely on a doctor that doesn't make the same salary as a mailman and see him TODAY (not on a waiting list of 3 months), well, for me, that is quality of life. And all of the above is out of reach of an average middle class European due to expense or just general lack of availability.

Happiness for some, perhaps many, is to let the government tell you what to do, how much to earn, where to go, and not to worry about anything. Happiness for many Americans (not enough unfortunetly) is to better yourself, and see those rewards from that.

Dumb stupid americans? Well I can add the typical Eurotrash comments, but what's the point. I've been to Europe dozens of times, I love it's history, it's food, it's architecture, it's museams, and it's people, but I have no desire to live there.

The whole "happiest" comes from the fact that they are very wealthy and small country with socialized healthcare. The thing is that dur to increasing illegal immigration from north africa and the Middle East, Denmark is having a ton of socio-economic problems, including strains on their welfare and healthcare systems. Denmark is also facing a lot of violent crimes, specially rapes and robberies. That si what happens when the first world gets invaded by the third.

That is why the Danes, along with the Swiss and other European nations is trying to control immigration, specially illegal immigration.

Note on how Denmark might have been chosen as #1 in the world: If the survey was done in San Francisco, Boston, and NYC, yes, the US will be voted all the way to the back, as thes eplaces have tons of Anti-American people. If the survey had been done elsewhere, I bet the US would be far up there. Oh and if "happiness" means drug use, then Denmark should definitely be #1!

by drug use, you mean the legal drug marujuana? what the hell is wrong with that? Its a great country and they are not wealthy by American standards.. you will find that the US in comparative terms to its wealth under achieves in almost every catergory in every survey in terms of happiness, education, standard of living etc

that said, i'm moving to california

Default hit from the bong

I came across this forum from a google search on Danish suicide. My son is half danish, bc I fell sucker for the most beautiful danish blonde woman I have ever laid my eyes on. that is what should be illegal, my gawd, I mean they leave us poor chaps helpless with their beauty. We should all be drinking whatever in the hell is in scandanavian water. Our son looks like a movie star, so Im not bitching.

But I do have a question for you posters on this thread. What is up with Danish feminism. Beautiful, but bull headed worse than anything I have ever seen. Their socialistic viewpoint is absurd. Whoever wrote not having to wait three months to see a dr that gets paid same as mailman, and small concrete front yards in front of their welfare apartments that are housed with supermodels is EXACTLY correct.

I consider myself well above the "to do" mark in the lifestyle category, but cannot make this woman happy. She wants the luxuries, but is appaled of my work ethic. She goes back to her danish smurf farm telling me what I'm missing out on, but for some reason I still have to send a check over there to keep the supermodels clad like supermodels.

It's a complete farse, their suicide rate is high, they drink like its thier last breath, they sleep more than mexicans bc they are out clubbing all night, they have porn on the channel next to the news, everything costs double, they get taxed to the point there is no motivation to perform at high levels, they dont really believe in marriage, so everyone has kids with everyone elses kids but no one is married. But if you watch the workforce head out on their bicycles in the am you feel like you are in a mentos commercial.

I dont know what my point is, but damn its hard marking these hard headed euro women happy. They want USA lifestyle with DK freedoms. I think they are on paid "holiday" appx 20% of the year, and if they have babies out of wed lock the government pays their way for a YEAR.

Maybe I'm jealous, but I dont know of what...

I wish USA chicks had their skin and hair then I would just shut up

And the only reason we are that high on the suicide list is due to the fact that Greenland is counted as denmark in that survey, there is not many suicides, and not homocides eather in Denmark. we are a happy country, and as far as i can say having spend quite alot of time in quite alot of countries around the world, including the U.S and Canada. The majority of people in denmark is alot more happy then people where from what i saw over there.

But then again, why wouldent we be? we got a beautifull country, we got the best welfare system in the world, sure we do pay high taxes, but as one of the only countries in the world, we have a completely free healthcare system(you can even get plastic surgery if you claim that you have some psychologically problems, caused by whatever you whant to have changed)

We have no people poor people, poor understoud as people that cant aford food and shelter(if you are unemployed you get payed money from the state every month) we have a absolutely free school system. (yes even if we decide to study in the U.S for example. infact we even get payed money to study after you turn 18 ( Called "beer money" among students in Denmark)

Denmark is a clean country, a free country. we can say whatever we whant, when we whant! we are not a uptight country, not in our beleifs(in contrast to your bibble belt, and president) and every religion is accepted.

Why wouldent we be a happy country? nothing i have seen while traveling a large part of the world has proven to me that there is a better place to live then Denmark.

Thomas, a happy dane
Then why in the hell is everyone over there so infatuated with the United States. The workers over there complain about taxes, and the moochers compain about not recieving enuf welfare. ITs not bad, dont get me wrong. But I just dont understand where this holier than thou attitude originates? If you get a nice car, you get a yellow plate on it or register it sweden while hiding it from the cops. They tax you like 150% on autos? The hosptials are not airconditioned, the chicks are hot, but they are not plentiful, and the prince married an foriegner. What kind of monarchy is that

I think this is a wonderful sentiment, but in truth, the circumstances around you very much affect your level of happiness and satisfaction. Unless you're one of the lucky few that have managed to achieve a sort of blissful nirvana where everything around you is simply an illusion!

I don't know why they would be so happy there.
