I believe you are incorrect regarding the reserves. They were called up for active duty in WW2. LBJ, Nixon, Ford and Bush were Naval reservists who served in the Pacific theater.
Claiming that someone in the military during WW2, who volunteered instead of being conscripted, isn't a real WW2 vet because of their posting is really mean spirited. Many reservists saw more action than than conscripts who never left US soil. Some question what Tom Eisenhower (Grassley meeting) did in WW2 but I won't go there.
As a matter of fact, the US Navy Reserves were called up long before 12/7/1941 ... the old WW1 4 stack destroyer that sunk the Japanese midget submarine outside Pearl Harbor the USS Ward was manned entirely by US Navy Reservists from Minnesota.
Back then volunteer reserves were in reserve and never served on active duty like happens these days. Ciaerin is not wrong, but you maybe have never been in the military. You sound like you never made it. If I am wrong please take this as an apology.
We'll all have to forgive Roy while he claims to be a history teacher, he has never claimed that history was his major.
Strange some of you conservatives, those who were in combat should be given latitude.
That American breed bomber served in the first gulf war, he was deserving of latitude ?
