What do you mean when you say 'racism'? I'm thinking that what you really mean is prejudice and discrimination. Racism can lead to problems such as prejudice and discrimination. However, someone who is racist may not engage in prejudice and discrimintion. These are separate issues.

I noticed much more racism when I lived in nj than here in the south.

Anyone can employ selective reading of scriptures to justify their hatred, ignorance, and intolerance.

Please define your experience. Is it just from watching CNN or the Dukes of Hazard movies ?

From my experience, there is more racism in areas up north like Detroit and Chicago.

What makes you think there is? A thousand "I got a bad vibe" threads here on City data?
Without a definition we all can agree on (or at least agree to use) it's impossible to even know what's being talked about.
Racism is a serious charge. As a nation and a people I think were better than that.
I don't think it I know it.

Having never been one to discount the racism of northern states, I still find it ludicrous to argue that there has been a historical equivalent between racism, as practiced, in the former southern slave states and the states to the north. And I can assure you that my observations are based on quite a bit more than the Dukes of Hazard.

As a nation, yes. But there are some holdouts.

Typical northeast liberal. According to them, everyone in the south is an ignorant, racist, NASCAR fan. MSNBC and CNN told them so.

In my experience, urban dwellers in the northeast are the most ignorant, provincial people I have met in the US (I lived in New Jersey one year). They have rarely, if ever, traveled outside of their region and have no idea about the world outside thier dingy urban life.

And who do you think would encounter more racism, a black man living in Atlanta or a white man living in the Detroit ?

I suggest a white man in Detroit. Areas like Atlanta have learned to live with a large mix of races, Detroit has not.

As a person from the south, I am probably wrong with false perceptions. Isn't that what we are discussing here ? False perceptions and stereotyping ? Many people from the north stereotype southerners when they have no experience but just preconcieved notions.

Most people in the Bible belt believe in loving their neighbor and do not make racist comments.
