What do you mean by "sponging a free education"? Parents pay school taxes. And many, like us, pay for both public education for the town's children and for private education for our own kids (or homeschool). People who can't afford both send their kids to public schools, but they are not hypocrites for keeping a very close watch on what those schools do with their children and speaking up, if need be.

I'm curious to find out how some of you would have reacted if Bush had broadcast his message in the schools. Would you have kept your kids home, or would you have mandated that they attend and watch the speech out of respect for the President???
look class, another CD poster who tries to use the "School funding" as an example of "socialism", but fails to understand that the government is setup to allow socialism, ON A STATE and LOCAL level, which is indeed where school funding belongs.

Dont you guys ever get tired of using the same argument which is, "since you fund schools locally, you should support x, y, and z, from the national government". WRONG.. Local, state, national, 3 different levels with 3 different independant responsibilities.. btw, my school tax bill is $6K a year, for PUBLIC schooling, maybe you wouldnt mind subsidizing that, so I can pay another $7500 for private schooling. What, you dont want to send me a check? Imagine my surprise..

So do those of us who own homes and don't have children. Our tax dollars are siphoned away from us through force to pay for something we don't use. It wouldn't be as bad if the public schools actually were performing at an above average level ... but many schools are substandard (like anything else the government tries to run).

I commend you for not sending your children to the public schools ... however, people who cannot afford every aspect of raising children on their own financial terms have no business having kids in the first place. Therefore, taxpayers should not be burdened with raising them out of their pocketbooks. As I stated many times before, education is a necessity, but it is still not a Constitutional right ... and for that matter, neither is reproducing.

School funding via taxpayer money IS socialism. What else would you call it? BTW, public education is funded through more than just state & local taxes. Federal money is also allotted to public education. How do you imagine the Department of Education and the NEA operate???

YOU sponge off those who have no kids but still pay taxes.

YOU sponge off those without kids with your tax credit for having kids...YOU get money back, SUCKING off of others like a leech..

I do?? you must be responding to another post.

Evidently you didn't read, or cannot comprehend. You are attacking ME? we worked and paid taxes to support public schools while my kids went to private school. It wasn't easy to pay for both, so I assure you I wasn't sponging off anyone. And when the kids went off to college, we still paid for public schools through our taxes.

As for paying for schools even if one doesn't have kids in the school system, I consider that generally a good thing to do. The children are our future. If only we could improve the educational system and get the unions out of the schools.
