No, they're saying this:

Obama in the Classroom - John J. Pitney Jr. - The Corner on National Review Online

The text of the president’s speech to schoolchildren is largely inoffensive. But it contains at least one political gaffe. If you quit school, he tells the kids, “You’re not just quitting on yourself, you’re quitting on your country.” Among Americans between ages 65 and 74, 20.7 percent quit before finishing high school. For those 75 and older, the figure is 27.4 percent. The latter group includes some who quit in order to enlist in the armed forces after Pearl Harbor. And yet the president seems to be calling them unpatriotic.

— John J. Pitney Jr. is the Roy P. Crocker professor of government at Claremont McKenna College. With James Ceaser and Andrew Busch, he is co-author of Epic Journey: The 2008 Elections and American Politics.

Oh for gods sakes. Times change, back then it wasn't unusual for people to not attend college. Nowadays, it's almost a requirement. And if the average person can't get thru high school, something is wrong.

Right, because this country is exactly the same as it was fifty, sixty, seventy years ago. Technology hasn't advanced, and the education to effectively utilize that technology hasn't changed. The economy hasn't changed. The world hasn't changed.

It's something that has been building for 8 months from conservatives and moderates. Most of those moderates voted for him. But I think they are feeling buyer's remorse. They were swayed by his promise to be centrist and ignored his radical associations. Now? They keep seeing Bill Ayers and the Rev in their sleep.....

It started with:
1. Putting a Tax cheat over the IRS
2. The apology tour in Europe
3. Closing Gitmo and now thinking about bringing them here
4. Buying out GM and they still went bankrupt
5. Bank control
6. Apology tour in the Arab world
7. The infamous bow to the royal Arab dude
8. Health care push
9. Democratic Congress calling people Nazis
10. Czars......czars and more Czars!
11. Calling the Boston Cop stupid
12. Stopping the Gitmo trials (this should be near the top)
13. Killing school Vouchers for poor urban kids in D.C.
14. Raising taxes
15. Van Jones......
Am I missing something?

The folk have seen a flood of socialist activity the likes they've never seen before!

AND NOW THIS GUY THAT THEY DON'T TRUST TO "SPELL" TRUST, WANTS TO SAY SOMETHING TO THEIR KIDS??

Now maybe theses parents are over-reacting. But if you read that list of things that they are reeeeeaally ticked off about, can you understand why they were leary? I wouldn't want someone I don't trust, saying something to my kids either. Even if he's the Prez. Especially when if I don't know what he's gonna say.

Obama has sown a lot of ill will in 8 mos. And he still seems hell bent on getting his way.

Oh ...I forgot........add this to the list....

The "Wise Latina" Justice

So teachers could prepare a follow up or discussion activity for after the speech.............it takes time to organize a day's lesson, esp. for those who had it as the first day of school and had to plan all the icebreakers, routine explanations, etc.

I doubt whether kids who don't care about quitting on themselves are going
to care all that much about the country.

You're quite right. People haven't changed either.

You may believe that, but I could make a darn good argument of why the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and subsequent equal rights policies and legislation have made educational degrees much more important to current and future generations than those qualifications were in previous generations.
