if you read the article and not just the headline and half of the first sentence, he didn't urge people to give up their cars, he urged developers to design communities that are more walkable, so people don't have to use cars as much. those are two very different things.
the telegraph is an incredibly biased paper (as if that wasn't obvious). the headline on that article is simply a lie.
The Prince, who has two Jaguars, two Audis, a Range Rover and still drives an Aston Martin given to him by the Queen on his 21st birthday, said developers had a duty to put public transport and the pedestrian at the heart of their housing schemes.
Speaking about the “domination of the car over the pedestrian”, the future King said: “We must surely be able to organise ourselves... in ways in which we are not dependent on it to such a great extent for our daily needs."
The Prince said the principle of “elevating the pedestrian above the car” was one of the guiding factors of Poundbury – his model development in Dorset. The importance of “pedestrian friendly public space” is central to the Poundbury ethos.
This kind of public transport-oriented development is fundamental to achieving the ultimate goal of a low carbon community, and it is very likely that such communities, far from being austere, will actually become the sought-after places where people will choose to live and spend their time.”
I think it's a great idea! I'm not going to completely give up my car, but my goal is to bike to work at least once a week, more if possible after I get my knee issue taken care of. Me and my boyfriend already bike to the grocery store a few times a week, and we also bike to the tennis courts where we play. Not everyone is going to be able to or even want to give up their cars but if you can, you should at least try. I've already lost 10 lbs and my endurance has gone up exponentially. I feel better physically and my head is clearer now that I'm getting more exercise AND getting errands done at the same time.
Why are people so afraid of suggestions to lower their use of vehicles?

Because it would be an admission of their own gluttony and lack of care for the environment. If they ignore it, it does not exist.
Why is owning multiple cars any different than owning one? You can only drive one at a time.
