Anybody else tired of news channels praising stupidity just to get ratings?

The latest example: balloon boy.
Why did the news channels spend days analyzing that stupid crap when all they had to do was talk to a scientist who would have told them exactly how much hellium it would take to lift a person in the air.

Why is it that the news channels never check with scientists?
Instead they spend hours talking to "contributors" who BS their way through topics for hours.

I found the answer just doing a google search
Balloon boy helium physics

The thing that gets me is when whatever news organization justifies their choices in news coverage by saying something like "the people want to know." With balloon boy, one sentence would have been more than enough for me!

I am thankful each and every day for whatever genius (really, a true humanitarian) invented the TV remote control. It is wonderful, and has no doubt helped me save whatever wits I have left, to be able to quickly change channels or mute the sound when a ridiculous "news" story or, even more likely, a completely inane and insulting commercial comes on.

It's even worse when balloon people are raised to celebrity status, and appear in cartoon form in shows like the Simpsons. barf

It is because they are trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator, just like our politicians, and why not it works every 4 years.

They did talk to a "physicist" at Colorado State University, who at first said the baloon was large enough to lift the boy. He later "recanted".

Odd, academics at that level are never wrong

Sorry, no disrespect for the deceased, but why was Anna Nicole Smith famous and why were hundreds of hours of air time devoted to her passing? Is this representative of the American mentality? Shame.

These are nothing more than ploys to distract the masses from the important issues at hand.

Right and Michelle can do 145 spins with a Hula Hoop and go on Jay Leno. BTW, we are spending your kids into a national disaster.

Blame it all on the National Enquirer.
