Japan PM speaks out against excessive capitalism - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20091026/wl_asia_afp/japanpolitics_20091026062942 - broken link)

Quote:
Speaking on his vision of a kinder, gentler society guided by the spirit of "fraternity," Hatoyama said market forces were useful for a country but must be tempered in order to create a liveable society.
"It is self-evident that free economic activity in markets invigorates society," said Hatoyama, 62, who swept to power in August elections, ending more than half a century of almost unbroken conservative rule.
"But it is also obvious that the idea of letting markets decide everything for the survival of the strongest, or the idea of 'economic rationalism' at the expense of people's lives, does not hold true any more."
Couldn't this aptly apply to our health care "system"? Should human lives be left up to the "free market"?

A command and control economy was an essential part of their lost decade. Lots of unproductive "zombie banks".

You know good and well I'm not talking about abortion.

A clump of cells is not a human life. Until the second trimester begins, abortion should be legal and if the fetus is a danger to the mother's health or life, abortion should be legal after the first trimester.

Get back on topic children. Discuss using government to limit the most harmful of capitalism’s greed driven excesses. Talk about what happens when business controls government instead of government controlling business. Speak to the problem of business creating market destroying monopolies and the effect on the economy.

What, we need another 30,000,000 threads on the topic? Evertime someone says they oppose the free markets, its now justification for a new thread? Given todays climate, cd's hard drives will be full of threads on the topic because it seems soo cool to be anti free markets for anything..

Hell, the comments made by the PM could be used to support regulating how many fries you are allowed for lunch. Oooh no, there I go again, giving liberals ideas on what to regulate next..

They've already banned transfats and entered into the oily fry market.
Next you know, they'll tell you how many grains of salt per fry.
