It doesn't work that way. President, governor, mayor does some major like this had the bitching and moaning from the press corps become unbearable, I know because I was one of the bitchers and moaners. Not only that, things like Obama's visit isn't going to stay quiet for long, if - strike that - when word gots out to AP, Reuters, AFP/Getty, as it would have, they would have dispatched a number of staff photographers and stringers from their Philadelphia Bureaus or would have at least asked the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Daily News, the Wilmington New Journal and the Dover paper if they were going to staff the event. By that time news would have leaked to every major affiliate from Trenton to Wilmington, then the issue would have been a gaggle of news agencies demanding an opportunity to staff the event.

By inviting the top echelon in the business they were able to control the event, access and to a great extent privacy.

"He called up a cadre of photographers"

That's funny. Like I stated before, by Washington standards, four photographers is an intimate tea. On an average Obama event during the campaign, an average event, there were at the very least 20 credential still photographers and another 8 to 12 tv crews. Now that is a cadre.

"This has nothing to do with a speculative media-frenzy."

Then you are absolutely clueless as to what one of these events looks like from the other side of the velvet rope. I suggest that instead of speaking from abject ignorance... oh never mind.

This if from an election night event in BOSTON!

So, again, the naysayers were saying? As I said before, every one of you that voted for Obama are pawns to his arrogance, and you don't even realize it.

As I said before, supply a link establishing NO POTUS ever traveled with reporters and photographers. Total fail on your end.

Let's review.

April of 2009 - Obama signs an executive order rescinding the rules about media at KIA returns to Dover.

Since then - 310 have arrived, 60 % of the families have allowed photos of their KIA returned military. The first time this was allowed - 40 media showed up, the next day a little less ... now it's only 1 AP guy and it's been that way for months.

Obama "suddenly" decides to go to Dover in the middle of the night. He manages to gather 24 media people to go with him. 18 arrived in Dover and 17 of the 18 families say "no way" to the Obama photo op. "No way" to the President of the United States of America. NO WAY by 17 families.

One only family agrees to the Presidential salute. ONE ONLY out of 18.

It was a great photo ... they are already calling it "iconic". Thank you American media for this "gift" to the citizens of the USA.

Anyone want to take a guess about how military families feel about this? Try. Try to put yourself in their place.

Did he "pressure" the NYT to "change" their Dover story? You must be joking to even ask that.

Some people will just never understand how disrepectful it is to use fallen soldiers as a photo op for the POTUS.

Bush never went to Dover.

Mr. Obama's predecessor, President George W. Bush, visited the families of hundreds of fallen soldiers but did not attend any military funerals or go to Dover to receive the coffins. In a 2006 interview with the military newspaper "Stars and Stripes," Bush said he felt the appropriate way to show his respect was to meet with family members in private

Good for him not to use the dead soldiers as a photo op. Too bad Obama does not have that much decorum.

You are quite right. Now the recant comes out.

It was an article that quoted Liz Cheney saying Bush went.
But, as it later turns out, Bush never went to Dover.

However much I might agree with this statement, it's altogether irrelevant -- because the POTUS has been doing exactly this for a long time.

Answer this question directly, if you would please: Did it bother you when Ronald Reagan did it?

And if it did, did you speak out? Conversely... if it didn't, what was different?

The family that gave permission doesn't think it's disrespectful. Since the family's opinion is the only one that matters, what you think is quite irrelevant.
