Some of you may recall the Luby's Cafeteria shootings- also in Texas- that killed 23 and wounded about 23 more. Now today we have the Ft Hood killings. About the same killed today. So what is the MAJOR difference?
The major difference is that those who survived the Luby's shooting were left with crippling medical bills in addition to their physical injuries. Many of them probably went bankrupt, lost homes and had to ask kids to forgo a college education.
Today's victims will not have to worry about medical bills. They will not have to fight big insurance to get their bills paid. Their bills will be totally taken care of by GOVERNMENT health care. So they can hopefully concentrate on getting better- like they should do.
Think about it when you hear Republicans betch about "government health care". They certainly didn't complain about it today did they?

OMG, how could you even say something like this??? You have no proof or even a speculation this is the case. To even mention something like this right now is totally un called for...And some of you think conservatives have no heart; libs will take any opportunity to try and make a case, weak or not...

Good job Kev, I didn't think anyone would have the temerity to use this tragedy to prop up their agenda but you my friend have come through. Thank you for renewing my faith that when someone is fanatical enough about something, nothing is out of bounds. Keep up the good work.

If those at Luby's were shot on the job, like these soldiers were, they'd receive worker's compensation of some sort as well.

Terrible comparison.

I am not using it. I am merely pointing out the truth.

How do you know that the soldiers were "on the job"? Maybe they were actually off duty and out of uniform when they were shot. In the case of government health care, it would not matter. Even if they were shot off base at Luby's (in fact as I recall some of those who were shot at Luby's were military), they would still get free government health care.
In fact, come to think about it, do we even know if all those who were shot were military? But even if they are government civilian employees, they would still get government health care.

It takes a really sick freak to try to spin something like this into an endorsement of government health care. Not that you had that much before, but you now have ZERO credibility in anything you say from now on.

I am not trying to spin anything. Do you not think I am as sorry as you are over this? I am. I am just making a point about the difference for the survivors of these 2 similar things.
