I seriously doubt that. Do you have a source, or is this your opinion? I'm sure the Japanese have better things to worry about than this Obama photo-op, just like those of us who don't care about cultural items such as this. Substance of the visit occurs in the meetings, not in greeting the emporer.

They are laughing at him because they know it is not protocol for the POTUS to bow to the Emperor of Japan. The Japanese are such a polite people but they do delight in the faux pas of foreign visitors behind closed doors. How do I know? I lived in Japan for a few years.

I lived in Japan for four years myself, and I'd like to see a link that backs up your claim.
Obama did not make a donkey of himself anymore than some of the posters in this forum from the right...and from the left...
