Will Phillips appeared on CNN Monday morning with his father, Jay, to discuss his refusal to say the pledge of allegiance.
"I've grown up with a lot of people and I'm good friends with a lot of people who are gay and I think they should have the rights all people should, and I'm not going to swear that they do," the ten-year-old Phillips said.
I don't understand why this is a topic. This kids parents put him up to it, and besides the ACLU has made sure that nobody has to say the Pledge if they don't want to.
I don't understand why kids are required to recite the Pledge at all. We all have a right to protest the Pledge Of Allegiance by remaining silent. I support the kid, no matter what his reasoning is.
The Pledge is a hilarious example of the people who profess to be most terrified of "government intrusion" demanding the right to brainwash children in the name of the government.
Good for Will Phillips. The Pledge as a part of grade school classrooms ought to be scrapped anyway.
I don't like the pledge, or the prayers. Kids can have gay uncles, and aunts. good for Will.
