coming home with his you-know-what in his hand. A complete waste of time, but the trip did have the effect of showing China just how truly weak he is (they slapped him around pretty good). For all the apologies, the bowing, the groveling, the inappropriate deference, the talk of "resetting" and "repairing" relationships (there was never any need in the first place), nothing, absolutely nothing came of this trip, other than once again weakening the US in the eyes of the world........which really if you think about, was probably his goal to begin with.
Even his allies feel let down by the president’s lack of progress both in Asia and at home

White House aides exulted that perfectly choreographed pictures of this moment would make front pages around the world.
That's really all that matters; photo-ops and imagery.

It was not just that the US media have suddenly turned a lot more sceptical about a president with grand ambitions to reshape politics at home and abroad — even one previously friendly newspaper noted dismissively: “Obama goes to China, brings home a T-shirt.”
It was also dispiriting that Mr. Obama agreed to allow China to limit his public appearances so markedly. Questions were not permitted at the so-called press conference with Mr. Hu, and his town hall meeting with future Chinese leaders in Shanghai not only had a Potemkin air, it was not even broadcast live in China. That doesn’t explain Mr. Obama’s acquiescence in such restrictions.
Oh, sure it does. He believes his own rhetoric - that the US is no longer the leader of the free world and that other leaders demand his acquiescence.
Obama's Nice Guy Act Gets Him Nowhere on the World Stage

The CNN cameras had already been set up. But then Obama decided not to play along, and not to answer the question he had already been asked several times on his trip: what did he plan to take home with him? Instead, he simply said "thank you, guys," and disappeared. David Axelrod, senior advisor to the president, fielded the journalists' questions in the hallway of the Blue House instead, telling them that the public's expectations had been "too high."
Too high?? What?? After the flowery rhetoric of the campaign, when the oceans would cease to rise and the tides would slow in his very presence, where one or two speeches would solve the ills of the world and it's leaders would gladly follow in his wake.
Coming home with nothing is a far cry from even a tenth of those expectations...I mean, even a little something might have changed the tone of failure, once again. But hey, he is bringing this home;
Creating a climate of collaboration is a worthy goal, but Obama was deferential to the point of looking weak. He acceded to a joint news conference with Chinese President Hu Jintao in which no questions were allowed.
It's a sad reality that the balance of power has shifted since Bill Clinton frankly criticized the Chinese for the Tiananmen massacre during a joint press conference with President Jiang Zemin in 1998.
Obama is no Clinton, or Bush, or Reagan. He would never do such a thing - confronting evil, murder, oppression. He doesn't have the stones or the backbone.
The Asia trip was not worth Obama's time. Leslie H. Gelb on why the president should shake up his foreign policy team—and make sure the deals are done before he leaves home.
President Obama went to Asia this month with great hopes that he could persuade the Chinese government to let its people buy more American products. He failed.
Didn't obama talk in the campaign about demanding from China that they open their doors to more US products? Wouldn't this have been a fine time to make good on that promise?
Barack Obama's first visit to Asia since his inauguration was one of the most disappointing trips by any U.S. president to the region in decades, especially given media-generated expectations that "Obamamania" would make it yet another triumphal progression. It was a journey of startlingly few concrete accomplishments, demonstrable proof that neither personal popularity nor media deference really means much in the hard world of international affairs.
Sitting here in Singapore as President Obama went through China and flew home from his 8-day trip to Asia, it is perhaps easier to see the true truth of his trip—it’s deep failure.
Obama came home empty-handed. He made little headway in his single most important mission—China’s revaluation of its currency, the yuan.
So, in summary;
Greenhouse gas emissions? No way.
Chinese currency? Nada.
Sanctions against Iran? Not a chance.
Nuclear disarmament? Try again.
Human Rights? Forget about it. And to top it all, he was coerced into a joint presser where questions were forbidden. I don't remember Bush being manipulated like that.
Tibet? The least of your worries.
He had one accomplishment though; showing the US and the rest of the world just what an empty suit he truly is.
This was an embarrassing and humiliating spectacle.
What we got left to export ?? They done got a note on every thing here .
Some of the things they use to import was for one reason to take apart and copy . Then they make cheep knockoffs and send them to us . What it took years to develop here we sent to them at scrap metal prices or less .
Sanrene, that's an impressive line-up you've put together. Liberals can rebut Fox News and feel good about themselves, but its hard to combat worldwide opinion with juvenile rants about "faux" news. The world is watching Obama very closely, and its seeing that Obama rode in on a wave rhetoric that he couldn't uphold. But you can't get Keith and Madcow to tell you that. The writing is on the wall. Thanks for putting this together.

Well said. Many knew he was a fraud. It is now just coming to realization.
And when or if Healthcare passes the country will only scoff at the costs and vote every congressman out in 2010 and the King himself in 2012.
Unless you're retarded or confused (yep, I said retarded to spite you liberal do-gooders), it is possible to be generally opposed to the President but also recognize when he's done something good.
Conversely, Obama didn't do anything good, so they reported what good he didn't do.

In this case, it happens to be that many people are anti-Obama, and Obama didn't do anything good.

That is what happens you enter into talks with communist dictatorships and have "no preconditions".
