By the way, you can buy gold teeth at flee markets for next to nothing, prisoners in jails have elaborate tattoos that cost a pack of cigarettes, you can buy "expensive" sneakers for less than $49.00 at Bare Foot Shoes, or DSW, and anybody can get a new cell phone, free, just by signing up.
I'm not impressed.
Well same type of folks are showing up at food pantries as well.
And they ain't driving clunkers..
I volunteer food and time there ..I see them with my own eyes.
Of course, I will take his one example and raise him a 800.
"A majority of those that attended the clinic suffered from chronic conditions, said Kimberly Garner, a family medicine physician in North Little Rock who served as the event's medical director. The most striking thing to Dr. Garner was that many of the people who showed up at the clinic were working steady jobs -- they just couldn't afford health insurance."
"During my last night’s shift in the ER, I had the pleasure of evaluating a patient with a shiny new gold tooth, multiple elaborate tattoos, a very expensive brand of tennis shoes and a new cellular telephone.
Glancing over the chart, one could not help noticing her payer status: Medicaid.
She smokes more than one costly pack of cigarettes every day and, somehow, still has money to buy beer. And our President expects me to pay for this woman’s health care?"
I am also a physician. Welcome to healthcare 2009. Unfortunately, 2010 will be worse.
My younger sister, who is a liberal, called me during her residency in a large east coast metro area and complained, "I am trying the HELP these people and they HATE ME! Don't they understand?"
No, they don't sis. They are entitled and you are just their servant. Tell them to shut up, do what you tell them, and kick thier asses out of the ER. That is the way the world works and you will survive your career. So far, she has.

There will always be those who are greedy and take advantage of whatever is free. However, we should not let those truly in need suffer or go without simply because of resentment of these people.
Good thing the doctor didn't go outside to see the patient's car's huge rims costing thousands of dollars if they didn't steal them. Doctors are judgemental just like everyone else, whether they admit it or not. You'd be shocked to hear how some doctors refer to low ranking hospital employees and some of their own patients. Most of our hospital's doctors are cool. These are usually the ones who drive pickup trucks, chevys, buicks, or modestly priced luxuary sedans. Some of the doctors with the worst attitude towards those they feel are beneath them drive high dollar vehicles. Don't judge someone by how their treat their equals or those above them. You judge them by how they treat those they feel are beneath them.
I really hope I am never treated by a judgmental Doctor like that.

I, too, hope I'm never treated by a doctor like that.
Working in a hospital in California for close to twenty years, I've seen the abuse on a daily basis. You can keep your head buried in the sand but the truth is the system is being abused.

Ok, so your point is what? We should deny medical care to the poor period? Or do you think we ought to have a "court" that hears each case and than decides whether someone is really entitled to be seen at the emergency room? Of course, some may die while this decision is being made.
Look, I'm sure there are people who take advantage of free emergency services. Personally, I'd like to send the population of "illegals" back to Mexico or wherever.
However, doesn't it make more sense to create a taxpayer funded free clinic near the hospital that treats sore throats, infected slivers, sinus infections, and anxiety disorders? That way the ER docs would have a place to send these people and ER rooms wouldn't be full of people creating a dangerous situation for those who truly need the care they offer?
If you think this is an argument against universal healthcare its not. Universal healthcare could probably deal with these patients cheaper than seeing them in an emergency room.

No I don't jojajn. What is pitiful is that these types of people think nothing of coming for a free handout when there's plenty of others that could use it more.
There are a lot of middle income folks starting to come to the pantries..they are trying to stay afloat and pay their bills and do the right thing. I have no resentment for these folks.
It's the ones that look like they just came from the mall with all their shiny new toys and gloat about it that I have to grit my teeth over.
