I was wondering if anyone was or know anyone in the field of Social Work that practiced with a Conservative mind set. I know that many practice with a Liberal ideology because of the profession's focus on change, but I know that some Conservatives go in the field. I was wondering if one is a more Conservative social worker, what Conservative viewpoints do you utilize in the field?
I don't believe that they can. My mil worked with people on disability and the aged as a nurse. The rules are such that you do not comment about anything that you see or hear while visiting your patients. If it is clear that the person is committing fraud by pretending an illness and/or disability the visiting nurse is prohibitted from putting this into her reports.
On the one hand I do understand and approve of the 'non-judgemental' mandate for social workers. On the other hand, to be prevented from investigating or reporting suspected fraud is just going overboard.
What I am exploring in this question is this: Social Work is about helping people. I view both Liberal and Conservative ideological viewpoints as wanting to help, but they just go about it differently. For example, I know that Conservatives tend to believe in social welfare, but they'd rather have private and religious organizations do it rather than the government. To go along with this, I wonder if some some see Capitalism and Trickle Down Economics as beneficial to social welfare.
There has always been a desire by Christian social conservatives to help the needy by doing social work. Some of it is volunteer work; some of it is paid work through government agencies or private organizations.
Conservatives do social work for the same reason as liberals. That is: "to make a difference" and "to have meaning in life". Not much difference in the foundational reasons, but I know that you are asking how that works out in practice, day-to-day. But I suspect that the two look very much alike.
I think the conservatives give the poor what they need and encourages them to make a better life for themselves. The liberals just give and give and expect them to always want more; to expect the government to continue to GIVE ......no self respect here, only dependence.
I know that Conservatives believe in helping people, they just don't want the Government doing it. Instead, they prefer aid be given by community organizations and churches. Plenty of social workers work there.

I am not a licensed social worker but I was a case manager for troubled youths and also worked in a domestic voilence shelter. I left a job in business to "make a difference." After a few years of volunteering and doing these social work jobs I regret having left business.
I consider myself to be a liberal but what I encountered far too often was a take what you can get attitude and an attitude of entitlement. This really got to me. I found the homeless people to be the most appreciative of groups. The women in the shelter were the worst. They would come in nice enough but after being there for a while this entitlement attitude started showing up.
I think it would be very difficult for a conservative to do this type of paid work.

Ah, sorry, but there have been a number of government social policies that conservatives used to promote, like the earned income tax credit, and national healthcare (see Richard Nixon). Even welfare and social security used have conservative support. By the way, there hasn't been a serious effort on the part of conservatives to dismantle government safety nets, ever!
