That is such a hack politician's line, they've been braying it for 200 years.

It's a lot easier to get knee-jerk applause out of jingo than to face problems and deal with them in a practical manner.
Those Americans that know little of America's history will believe it.

And this is why the woman is dangerous. I hope to hell that the media will stop gabbing about her kids, their boyfriends or her looks. This is what needs investigated. I truly do not trust this nutjob anywhere near nuclear weapons. I can see her starting WWIII in order to start the Rapture -- cause you just know she knows that she will be among the first to be beamed up to heaven. The boob.

That would be hypocrisy; science is only good when they like the science; it's only good when it promotes their ends.
We know theocrats would never be hypocrites.

Well that'll go over well in the conservative right. Right along with no abortions in cases of rape and incest, banning books that don't help your view of religion, and teaching "creationism" in schools.

Ugh, I really dislike this woman. I tried, I really tried to look at her in a positive light.

The era is the early to mid 1940's. This nation was at war. A World War. We were a nation UNIFIED as never before - nor since. The motto was "Family, God, Country"

After WWII, the nation started to grow. New cities and towns sprung up all over America. And in each town were Churches - of different denominations and descriptions. Most of the residents went to church each Sunday and participated in the Church and town's activities. Children were raised to respect their parents and others. Please and Thank You were common phrases. But center of it all was religion. Then came another war....'er, "conflict" (Korea) and once again, our nation united behind our brave soldiers at war - for some, it was their second war.

Then in the late 60's some things started to change. It was the era of the civil rights movement and at the center of this movement was a Religious man by the name of King. And Churches of all denomination stepped forward to push a righteous agenda - civil rights. And no one complained that the churches were "politically involved".

Then came groups of young people who began a "free love" generation - the "Age of Aquarius" was born. There was a focus on drugs, booze - getting high was the thing to do at night. They started to get away from "organized religion".

Then came the 70's and another war - Vietnam. An unpopular war to be sure - and the protests turned violent. There were some who ran from going to way and, in many cases, turned to various churches for asylum - and they got it.

In the 80's - the "Me" generation saw more emphasis on material wealth than on Spiritual Wealth. People started ignoring the Commandments, and turned away from religion. And there was turmoil - there was financial crisis similar to that of today - foreclosures, job loses. But, there continued to be that group of people, older now perhaps, who kept "the faith" - and when times became difficult for one reason or another - they turned to their churches - their religion for help, guidance and comfort.

Perhaps Sarah Palin is right. When this nation was asking for the good Lords help - they got it. This nation was a much better, calmer place - people were nicer, there was lower crime - even though money was tight. Families were closer.l

Maybe - just maybe - Sarah is right.

Is it really humble to say that she knows God's will and knows what is best for everyone instead of anyone else?

Seems a bit of a contradiction.

What if God's will is driving current events, and by thinking they "know" the will of god without a doubt, they are causing the strife?

You never know when you just assume to know, it's just a fallacy of self conviction and imagination.

Not sure how old you are, but if you ask my grandfather if things are better today, then they were in his young days, he'll be happy to tell you he loves the future.

The truth is, some people didn't like the actions during WWII. People protested to keep us out of the war, until the Japanese attacked us.

Remember 9/11? Everyone in this country was on the same page. Thats the great thing about America. We can fight, cuss, hit, and hate one another, but don't let anyone else hurt us.

The reason Vietnam, and many of the other wars of choice, was so controversial was because we weren't attacked. There was no clear and present danger to the States.

People talk about the "good ole' days" all the time. The fact is, people had to work harder, longer, and lived shorter, less fufilling lives in the "ole' days". Americans now enjoy more free time then at anytime in our history. Things aren't perfect, and news agencies only want to report on the bad things around us. It seems to me my fellow Americans focus on the bad to much, and seem to ignore the good of their every day lives.
