Wonder what the Christmas shopping numbers would look like if everyone just bought their Christmas gifts in cash or used their credit cards (but had to pay them off entirely when the bill comes due in January). Being financially responsible and living within your means shouldn't be political.

And the media contributes to it through statements like "the average American has $8,000 in credit card debt" (translation to those with less debt..."you can spend more money on your credit cards because at least you're not as bad as others.") The reality is that 55% of people either have no credit card debt or pay their entire balances every month.

Same with the foreclosures. "U.S. foreclosure filings spiked by more than 81% in 2008, a record, according to a report released Thursday, and they're up 225% compared with 2006." Translation: "It's okay that you bought a house you couldn't afford or didn't bother to read the contract. Everyone else is in the same boat...did you see that Best Buy has flat screen tvs on sale?" The reality is that nearly 90% of homeowners are not facing foreclosure and many of them don't even have a mortgage!

Live within your means. That way, no matter who's in office, you can keep your standard of living. Sometimes you'll have a little more to spend and sometimes you'll have a little less. The best news is that you aren't waiting around for the government to save you. It won't and you shouldn't expect it to.

what you need to understand is that republicans WANT to see the economy recover. show me one republican who wants to pay for another round of stimulus to prop up a failing economy! we want to hear good news!
You want good news? The unemployment RATE went down to 10.2%. You can moan all you want about a net loss of 11,000 jobs, but the fact of the matter is still the UE is down.

Mostly because UE compensation has run out for some people and others have stopped looking for work.

Believe half of what you see, little of what you hear, and nothing that you read.

Of course there is good news, in fact that sales are up, but please.. stop jumping for joy as if your getting a lump of gold from santa this year..

Most of the increase in sales is due to a decrease of profit margins, and businesses. Revenue up, profits down, not good.. And many expect sales through December to be lower than last year..

*chuckle*

Yes, that is true. But there are some bright spots in the economy, but some want to deny them to fit their own agendas.

Not denying anything, just smart enough to know that an increased head count of unemployed and a drop in the rate means that the actual numbers are still bad overall. Just as some use the drop in the rate for their own agendas. I'd call it cognitive dissonance.
