In the discussion I have heard, they feel it is a betrayal to their ancestors, who choose their mates carefully, to carry on various blood lines. they don't seem to mean it personally, just as a matter of breeding. ---I'm a mut, so it matter little to me personally. My folks were Italian and Scottish. ---I'm sure no therobreed.
Seeing black/white interracial couples all over the place anymore, I can't really see, how white americans oppose IRR. If so, that would mean that many opposed the very relationship they are in.
I think the better question would be why do some people oppose IRR?
It seems like Americans, particularly white Americans, strongly oppose IRR. I understand that its 1929 moving to 1930, so that explains a lot.
Why do people oppose race mixing?
I have dated outside my race with no issues whatsoever.
Race baiting in posts like this sorta puts you in the same league as those you take offense with (white Americans).
Why do you always seem to bring up race when you start a new post?
I don't think people in general oppose interracial relationships anymore. Old habits are hard to break, but we are living in the 21st century and most of us have become more accepting.
Heck we have a supreme court justice who married out of his race and a President that is 1/2 an 1/2.
Unfortunately there are still way too many racists in America. This is not just a American problem but some Americans still have the KKK mentality. I am sure there are far more than we imagine. I still find it hard to believe that it was only as far back as the 60's that segregation was common in America and racism was common and in the open.

I guess I just see it through rose colored glasses. My in laws are a mix from 1960, I married out of my race, and I know quite a few more even before I got married the second time. I know there are Klans out there that really dislike it. I watched a show on it last night on History channel. Makes it look scarey to go to Portland Oregon. But on the other hand, DW and I saw 2 Canadian commercials last week each with an interracial couple acting as if in love.
I come from a place where racial issues are still very present. Interracial relationships are generally looked down upon. They are looked down upon more, if one member of the couple are very attractive, or very well off.
I know I've seen my share of black women turn their nose to a black man dating a white woman. Especially when that black man is well off financially and good looking. I've seen plenty of white men do the same thing, when a woman is very attractive, and she is dating a black man.
I think they view it as the cream of the crop jumping ship. How many people have heard black people critisizing Tiger Woods for only dating white women? I've heard a lot of it, mostly from black people. I personally have no issue with it. Will I turn a look at a couple that interracial when one person is really good looking, and the other is butt ugly, yeah, but I do that with regular couples to. Like "What is she doing with that guy?" kind of thing.
I honestly can't look down on anyone dating outside of their race. I've dated a few women outside of my race, so that would make me a hypocrit.
