"India will hold the nation’s first beauty pageant for eunuchs, a term used for cross-dressers as well as pre- and post-operative transsexuals, beyond its traditional meaning."
From what I've read, I think that transgendered people in countries like India and the Philippines are considered by many to be a legitimate "third sex". They're considered exotic, but not freaks. If anyone can clarify this, please chime in.

I don't get HBO any more but, when I did, it had a series on there called "Taboo"....it was about many different topics not necessarily sexual. One episode (which I didn't see....I only saw the commercials for it) was about certain cultures having a "third sex".
I don't want to see ANY beauty contest as I find it demeaning to judge human beings on beauty ( just as I do not understand Dog Shows) but however if we allow them for women /men then I guess fairness and justice dictates that it is also allowed for transgender people.
Personally I would like ALL beauty contests to be relegated to the history they belong to. I have no problem with transgender people. Nature does often make mistakes and for s human being to be willing to change sex via surgery is a painful phsychological and physical process... Nobody does this lightly as a whim, a caprice of wilful childishness. I think it is so sad that someone feels trapped so badly in their body that a sex change is the only option left to them.
In our Western society we think nothing about people who have plastic surgery which is done for nothing but pure vanity and shallowness and in fact encourage this behaviour by facile judgement on esthetic grounds and yet we dare to condemn people with such traumatic lives ? I don't get it.
Who am I to judge someone who is trapped within their bodies. I could possibly never understand the strength of those feelings.
I don't think the US government should sponsor ANY beauty pageant... if it were private sponsors then I am okay... but in NO WAY should taxpayer's money be used so frivolously to sponsor beauty pageants...
