From 1800 to present, which countries would you say have/had the worse record for civil/human rights abuses against its own citizens?

My top 5:

1. United States: Civil Rights/Jim Crow Slavery against Black citizens
2. South Africa: Apartheid
3. Israel: Suppression of civil/human rights against Palestinian People
4. Australia: Civil Rights abuses against Indigenous Aboriginal People
5. China

Definitely Iran. I'm surprised to see the U.S. listed; is it that bad in human rights?

Your list is no top 5 for anyone that knows history.
These are just off the top of my head.

Germany: Hitler, the holocaust.
Cambodia: Pol Pot, mass genocide
Russia: Stalins purges
Bosnia: Genocide
Rwanda:Genocide

Body counts in the millions.

I can only wonder what your agenda might be by listing the United States as your #1 offender.

That isn't even the worst human rights violation in our history, not even close

Murdering Native Americans and kicking them off their land was much worse.

That being said, we are still not close to the top 5 for the world in this regard

Here we go again.

America is evil bad bad bad...

^^^^

That makes it easier to sell you "change" kool-aid. Convince people something is wrong, and you get the oppurtunity to implement change. (And before you go bringing Obama into this, the word "change" was around long before him and has always been the basis of the "progressive" movement. My post has nothing to do with Obama or his campaign.)

Um, some people can consider the treatment of Native Americans in the US as a genocide. But whatever. EVERY industrialized nation, imo, all of Western Europe, the US, China, etc, they should all be on that list. None of them have clean hands.

That said, that's bs. There's no way South Africa should be BELOW the US.

How old is this?

I love the USA and do not think it is anti human rights. It used to be in the past in some ways but is is great now.

Thank you. Christ, I get that America has done some pretty atrocious crimes against several groups of people (Black Africans, Irish, Chinese/Japanese/Korean, Native Americans, etc) but c'mon. This nation has done so much for the humans rights movement for THE REST OF THE WORLD, that I think she deserves a lot more credit.
