The wake-up call is that we should take a different approach than the Europeans who've chosen to isolate rather than assimilate them into their cultures. People here were ringing these alarms 100 years ago about the Catholics. They've melted into the pot okay and I'm sure these folks will too. We're not Europe.

But you have to make it possible for them to do so. Europeans don't want them to assimilate, considering it a dilution of their ethnic and cultural heritage. We're not like that here in the U.S. Generally by the second generation, the immigrants' progeny turn into us.

Being a first generation immigrant to this great country, I positively agree with your statement. It IS the responsibility of every immigrant to adapt to their adopted and chosen country. This notion that we should adapt to every minority group in order to fulfill the politically correct agenda of the left is absolutely ludicrous.
I'm so tired of walking into a home depot and having to talk to five people just to find someone that actually speaks English. We are more encline to worry about not coming across as insensitive and racist, instead of demanding immigrants be required to learn our language, history and culture. Why must WE adapt? It is they themselves that chose to come here.

I was very fortunate to have come here days before my country fell into communist hands. Try fleeing on a ship with hundreds of others. People sick and dying amongst you, and realizing that they will never see the freedom for which they seek. I love this country, and it's a shame that I see this country being destroyed by it's own citizens(mostly from the left). We immigrants appreciate and love this country more than most average born citizen. We have been through and seen DEATH, tyranny, communism, socialism, appression, torturing, ect....
The leftist have no appreciation for how lucky they are to have been born in this country. If you don't believe my statement, I encourage you to ask any immigrant that you ever come across. There is a reason why most people in this world want to come here. No country is perfect. Every gov't has problems, but I would never want any of my fellow citizens to ever walk in my shoes and experience the pain of living before coming here. Be appreciative, for one day our freedom may cease to exist. We are traveling down this dark road. For I have seen it before.

Let me guess - you're Vietnamese? If so, as I recall we bent over backwards to help your people get established here. There were a whole lot of goverment and church programs that provided you with the support you needed. Being as you were young when you got here, you probably picked up the language fairly quickly and easily. You had a lot of advantages some of the others you disdain don't have.
Just be thankful you came here rather than another country like some in Europe which would have shunned you, kept you in a ghetto, and not let you go to the same schools with their kids. You're one of us because we wanted you to be.

First of all, I never said where I was from. Don't assume. Secondly, nobody bent over backwards for me or my family, so don't sterotype all immigrants. Nobody gave us handouts nor asked anyone for handouts. We scraped together with other immigrants, friends and a couple of family members already here. We(not I) learned English. We(not I) establish our roots. We(Noy I) started business. We made our life here. We(Not I) live the American dream each and everyday. Don't classify us all in one group, for your pleasure of trying to politicize my travels, suffering and life.

I posted that one more than a month ago. It scares the hell out of me because even though I am old enough to not be bothered by it my children aren't. I don't want them to have to live in dhimmitude because some liberals don't think we should fight Islamism, not the same thing as Islam, so they allow it all to happen.
