President Barack Obama is in a difficult position when it comes to deficits. Today's high deficits will have to go even higher to help address unemployment. At the same time, many Americans are increasingly concerned about escalating deficits and debt. What's a president to do?
The answer, from a policy perspective, is not that hard: A focus on jobs now is consistent with addressing our deficit problems ahead.
LOL!!! Typical righties... "Focus on jobs, but take care of the defecit.".
Let's see that Republican bill that does both....
Yeah, that's what I thought.
Have to spend to create jobs and have to create jobs in order to get more to spend... But Republicans act as though they have the answer and just don't want to share it.... (Guess what? They don't. ).
The deficits won't wait for you. If you don't address them now, you can rest assured those jobs will disappear in short order.
The article makes the opposite argument. I assume you read it in the minute or so it took you to respond. Without jobs, people aren't paying taxes, either payroll or sales. Not to mention that the unemployed put a drain on our social services which also increases the debt. It's a pretty simple concept that most reasonable people should be able to understand.
since we know that NATFA, and all the other 'freetrade' things have caused the jobs losses, why isnt Obama (or anyone else) addressing this. We know that Obama SUPPORTS nafta and the otherfree trade rules, since he PUSHED ""OFTA"" the free-trade agreement for Oman.
since NAFTA was passeded by the democrats controlled congress in December 1993 and signed by clinton, and all the others (gatt, cafta, ofta) signed by clinton, bush, and now obama we have lost nearly 40 million jobs to overseas makets........These jobs are permanent losses......
so the real question is .......will obama who is part of the problem, even admit that he and bush/clinton/bush caused these things and revoke the 'freetrade' laws and reimpose the import tarrifs so that jobs can come back to america....or will he continue to do as he has been,,,just blame the other guy, and continue down the same road?????

Republicans aren't in control. The democrats have large majorities in the house and senate AND they have the WH.

obama is bush on steriods
Just want to ask really quick how the NORTH AMERICAN Free Trade Agreement has anything to do with losing jobs to India, for instance?

Not a Democrat, but nice attempt at labelling.
We have gridlock in Washington, but it's "Not a democrat vs. republican thing"? Time to open up those eyes because it most certainly IS right now....
How's about your "Middle Class vs. the Establishment" solution to how you increase jobs without increasing the defecit?
MY point is that it's Republican points scoring rhetoric to say that we can and that the Dems plan is somehow wrong because it might focus on creating jobs, "OH BUT LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENING TO THE DEFECIT!!! ".
I'm open to the Libertarian or Constitutionalist idea too.... Show me the great panacea on how we create jobs without increasing spending?
Until then I will persist in my belief that bashing Obama because he can't do both is counter-productive rhetoric that is feeding on the crisis that the Republicans don't have an answer to either....
