A newlywed Nova Scotia woman hoping to visit her husband in the United States says she wasn't allowed to board a flight at Halifax Stanfield International Airport this week because she is a Muslim.
Ayat Manna, 25, of Dartmouth, said she thinks she was picked out of the crowd Monday night because she wears a Muslim headscarf. She said U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents questioned her for four hours, fingerprinted her and then escorted her out of the airport.
"I was walking downstairs in front of everybody. I had two guards and the police. They're all walking beside me as if I'm a terrorist," she said Wednesday.
Originally from Jordan, Manna has lived in Nova Scotia for 15 years and has been a Canadian citizen for 12 years.
... She said the interrogation by the border agents was humiliating.
"They asked me about my background, how much I pay in rent and why I don't own my own house. I don't know why they ask me these questions, if I'm pregnant or not," she said.
This woman was newly married (flag) travelling to the US on a ONE WAY TICKET (Huge flag of huge hugeness) without solid ties to Canada such as a mortgage (Instant grounds for refusal of entry). They asked her about rent because she should have brought all the ties she could, including a lease agreement.
I had to provide extensive proof when I crossed the border to visit my fiance before we filed the correct visa because if they even slightly suspect you're trying to jump the normal visa process, you're going to be denied.
Look at the questions they asked her, even the pregnancy: obviously an interrogation over marriage immigration suspicions. Anyone who's been through the marriage immigration process recognizes these questions immediately.
What probably happened was that she was under the mistaken assumption that being married to a US citizen (if her SO was a USC) = instant entry to the US, and got caught trying to avoid the k-visa or CR-1 process.
Nothing to do with her being Muslim.
As someone who imported my husband to the U.S. on a K visa, I can absolutely attest to this. Once you are in the process of visa approval, your ability to travel back and forth at will are strictly curtailed. Strictly. She mistakenly thought she could just come "visit" her husband here without the proper visa approval to travel and she can't; Muslim or no Muslim.

Given the circumstances they had every right to question and detain her.
This story illustrates Muslims are fast learning how to play the victim card.
No pity.

They didnt just refuse her entry because shes muslim
How dare they question her. She is so almighty. We should just take the chance and hope that she doesnt have a bomb in her panties. Because we dont want her to have to suffer thru being asked questions

9-11 terrorist had visas also. How well did that work out
So we approve someone a visa. They go back to say Iran get a bomb and get back on a plane to come back. You think we should risk that happening?
You dont think a terrorist would think of that and exploit that loophole of no searches once approved of a visa
