A poster once wrote they were turned off by one of the threads I started because I referred to the Big O as Barry.

Since when did Barry become an insulting slur. That is the nickname people used for him as he was growing up.

Now I understand his opponents often use his middle name Hussein to inflame anti-Arab/Muslim and xenophobic sentiment.

Yes, it is used as a veiled way of saying that "boy" has no business being in the position he is in. But the fact of the matter is that IS HIS NAME. Its part of who he is.

People who cringe when they hear Hussein do say because they've been bombarded with negative imagery of radical Islamic terrorists, Kenyan births and a negro army and what not.

These are the very people that need to be bombarded with facts about our President. His name is Barack Hussein Obama. He sometimes goes by the nickname of Barry. This does not diminish him as an American citizen or as our President.

No, it's NOT his name. His name is BARACK. Barry was a once-used NICKNAME, which he no longer uses.

You know this. And yet you persist. There can only be ONE reason that you refuse to refer to the man by the name he was GIVEN and his preferred name NOW.

It's disrespectful and your intent is to show your disrespect for the man.

I have never used the name, Barry, in talking about the man unless I was referring to the fact that he may have enrolled at Occidental under the name Barry Soetoro which was once his name. I think of it as a bit a slam at him also which is why I don't use it unless talking about the way he has hidden his college years so completely. I wonder what name he enrolled at Columbia under but won't soon find out.

As a joke and a way to HIDE his TRUE identity by using a name he DOESN'T USE!

Dubya was the nickname BUSH HIMSELF came up with AND USED for himself throughout his two terms in office. He was NOTORIOUS for coming up with nicknames. Here's a list:
