That isn't true. You certainly have but I don't recall "many" other Southerners doing the same. You are also an unabashed and unobjective Southern apologist that says anything to defend the South so your words mean little to me since you have an agenda to defend the South at all costs. Others have brought up historical facts regarding the Civil Rights period implicating the South and in each instance, you fail to acknowledge those people were right.
Sweetie, I'm not an unabashed, unobjective Southern apologist. I'm a liberal Yankee.
OK, you've asked this before, but here are my ideas.
-It's hypocrisy both ways. On one hand, some liberals will say that stereotyping is wrong, and hurts society. Then they will turn around and say the south is full of inbred trailer trash. So they might just be getting called out on their own hypocrisy.
-They could be tolerant of Muslims, and don't like being lumped in with those who aren't.
Basically, it's wrong to stereotype any group. You are doing to the South the same thing that some people do to Muslims.
My question is quite simple. Why do the people who stereotype Muslims and decry political correctness as a concept, ask that it be applied to them when they are stereotyped. You don't need to avoid the question.

Then maybe you should direct your thread to the people who don't want to allow any Muslim immigration, rather than directing your question to Southerners.
A "liberal Yankee" that currently lives in the South
A liberal Yankee clear-eyed enough to identify stereotyping when she sees it, and to condemn it, whether it's directed toward a race, ethnicity, religion or region of the country.

I don't hang out with those people, so I can't answer for them.
People who stereotype aren't going to give you smart answers. So the answer basically is to take them with a grain of salt or ignore them. It works for me. Instead, you want to fight ignorance with more ignorance. Or, since you've started this thread before, maybe you just want to stir the pot.
I can accept that. At least you are not being a hypocrite and can admit those stereotypes are true regarding members from your area as well. All I ask is that if you are going to be non-PC then you can't whine when your group of people is being stereotyped
I admit nothing. But to contest the point with you would be a waste of time. All I said was call me what you like. It's no skin off my back.
There are several replies from Southerners claiming they are unfairly stereotyped. You and your 53 posts haven't been here long enough to observe that. Nice try!
This time I have to agree with fortified. Of course, I am a rural living hick from southcentral Kansas and that all together makes me what you talked about. Yes, I have been called hick on this forum before. I have to wonder why being from the south makes one more racial than being from anywhere else. In my first real foray into the south in 1963 I found those rural whites and blacks getting along fine. Yes they had their part of town to be in at night but they associated like people during the daytime. In fact, it was a black man that called my attention to all of this right after a pore white dirt farmer gave me a 45 minute ride to the black area in a different city.
I think that too much of this crap is going on from people who don't really know the South. I don't know it either but I do understand that they aren't what they once were, either race in the south.
It's not stereotyping to state that the muslims' religion of Islam is based on the teachings of a murderous, polygamist, pedophile warlord, AKA the sacred Muhammed not to be depicted in any way.
