I'll go with the "entertainment" option. But it gives me an opportunity to exercise my mind. I want nothing to do with government or politics personally.
Some follow politics as a sideshow; others feel like it has a real affect on their lives.
I used to think it had a real affect on my life. Now, I lean more toward seeing it as entertainment.
I HATE HATE HATE politics. As distasteful as cleaning out a litterbox. I hold my nose and do my civic duty. I grew up with tradition that polite company avoids politics, but an excess of that avoidance gets us in trouble. Being aware is vital to a healthy democracy/ republic.
Entertainment factor - especially when Bush Jr. is speaking
Personal Impact - Federal tax, Social Security Tax, Medicare Tax, Business tax, City tax, County tax, School tax, Sales tax, Cigarette tax, Alcohol tax, Gas tax etc... etc
You can bet if B.O. has his way, all of the above mentioned tax increases will result and each of us will become silent observers. I still believe we can make a difference by exercising our right to vote, demonstrate, protest, and serve.
Politics does have a real, tangible effect on my life. It affects the economy, therefore business, therefore individuals. It's like the thousands and thousands who say Wall Street has no effect on their lives but yet their retirement funds future is determined by companies that they do not know they own a part of. The fate of those companies is determined by political influences.

I used to think it had a real affect on my life. Now, I'm probably halfway in between seeing it as a serious topic and seeing it as entertainment.
It is pretty easy to see that you aren't old enough to be on Medicare, as I am. I see the taking away of money from Medicare to pay for Medicaid as something that could well have a strong influence on my life. However, the Dems in Congress think it is the best way to go. They don't raise taxes but pull that little game that Ezekiel Emanuel wanted to see happen long ago.

True. I'm not on Medicare, but I'm sure there are older people who don't care if Medicare is funded or who even believe that it should be abolished. I wouldn't agree with them on that, but my point is that age isn't a sole determinant of whether or not someone believes that politics has a direct affect on their lives.

I'm somewhere in the middle, as usual. Washington is a three-ring circus and this forum is a proper freak show, so it can't be solely something other than entertainment.
