Not everyone in college has mommy and daddy paying their way. Not everyone lives in a dorm, either. Some even own homes!

It will be interesting to see what effect this has on unemployement rates in Oregon vs. the surrounding states over the next few years.

What specific point did I make that you disagree with?

Either respond to a point in my arguement or don't bother responding. Responses like this with no advice or arguement within them are very pointless.

From the chart that was posted it looks like the 85th percentile was about right. Nobody earning under this amount should be paying any taxes to either the town, state or the federal governments.

I am glad the Working Hard is successful but I do not see that it excludes him form paying for the maintenance of the country that let him get rich. There is nothing wrong with paying more if you get more. If you don't like it try living some place with no taxes for a while.

It's not as if Oregon hasn't already cut their budget and contrary to popular belief, some rich people don't mind paying higher taxes.
Very, very few.

Several years ago the voters of Massachusetts voted to lower the income tax from 5.85% to 5.3%. After the initiative passed, the legislature added an option to continue to pay taxes at the former higher tax rate, all one had to do was check a box on the state tax form.
In tax year 2005, of 2,104,326 Massachusetts state returns filed by April 15, exactly 624 taxpayers had opted to pay at the higher rate, a very small number considering that in a statewide referendum, 1,055,181 good liberals voted against cutting the income tax rate.

Almost 50% of the state's population voted to keep the higher rate but only .03% actually took the higher rate option on their state taxes.
Absolutely astounding hypocrisy!

Don't you understand that even with a flat tax rate the weathy pay more? You really think the more a person makes the greater percentage of their income should go to taxes?

Why should we punish the successful?

hnsq -

Because most of them made their money by using their wealth to distort the market in their favor. The primary reasons for success are still inheritance, personal connections' favorable tax considerations and speculation. Very few made it by hard work.

A rich man, that got his start with an inheritance, asked me how much I was making one day and, after hearing the amount, told me that I would never get anywhere on that because I didn’t have enough to live on as well as invest. He was absolutely correct. It takes a lot of investment money to make a little dividend money. Ten percent of nothing is still nothing. That explains the 90% of us with nothing and the 10% with everything else.

Let the 10% pay the bill for maintaining what they own. I am tired of doing it for them.

That's exactly what they did in Wisconsin..the middle class left in droves and the economically challenged moved in in droves. Business is also relocating to more business favorable states. So they are talking and walking.

Everyone is so quick to shoot back "if you don't like it leave" thinking it won't happen. Well it is happening now my friend. Times are different.
We all know that once taxed always taxed..there is no such thing as at "temporary" tax.
