Does it not appear that a bit of class warfare not be involved in that attempt to bring the people who make over $250 K to their knees? If you don't consider that use of class warfare I think you may be willing to believe that the means justify the ends.

I'm still trying to get my head around the definition of "wealthy being $250K/year".

Greed drives capitalism.
Jealousy drives socialism.

That $250K is now considered rich by many..too many IMHO, speaks volumes for the typical American and what their actual salary is.

People rob banks instead of post offices because...

1) that's where the money is.
2) the wanted posters are in post offices, not in banks.
3) postal employees are armed...

Why not adopt a rich family, roy, and pay for them? Im sure they'd let you. In fact I get the feeling they've been trying to get you to for quite a while.

Do you happen to know what percent the cruel tax would be?

I think $250K is the bottom income in the top 5% range.

If that's the case then we really have sunk pretty low.

From the data I've seen, the percentage of households with total gross adjusted incomes of $250,000 is about 1.5%-2% of total households in the US.

The median income in the US is about $50,000 a year.

I forgot that most of the posters on City-Data are apparently millionaires who scoff at the idea of $250,000 a year being considered wealthy...

The only problem I see with taxing the rich is this: they're rich for a reason- usually because they're pretty smart. If we smack them with a 40% tax, they'll simply buy up a lot of bank accounts in Sweden, Portugal, and other foreign countries and place their money there, among other things. If we tick them off enough and they leave, we'll be in deep doo-doo without any wealthy people in our country.

Oh, I support taxing the rich all right- to the point of where they may somehow have to cope with making 4 million a year after taxes instead of 5 million a year after taxes. My point is, it usually isn't all that practical or efficient.

Not to scoff but $250K in this area is most of the school district Superintendents in the state, many college administrators, some professors, lawyers, doctors, lobbyists at the state level, non-profit CEOs, developers and builders.
In addition many couples with Federal Civil Service jobs hit that as a combined number.
