It's never been done before. Had he came on the TV to wish good luck to whichever is his favorite team or some other well wishes, that would have been acceptable. This was all about him.

Really, GW Bush got on the NFL SuperBowl pregame show for nearly a half hour to talk about policy decisions?
It was maybe 15 minutes, not nearly a half hour, only part of it was about policy, and yes Bush did it as well.
