The Mayor of Las Vegas essentially tells the President to go to hell after the POTUS makes some derogatory remarks about Las Vegas (this was the second time).
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) - Mayor Oscar Goodman has refused an invitation to meet with President Obama when he arrives in town on Thursday. Mayor Goodman called President Obama a slow learner after he told Americans not to blow money on a weekend in Las Vegas if they were saving to put their kids through college.
"I've got other things to do quite frankly for my constituents here in Las Vegas who rely on me to do the right thing as a mayor," explained Mayor Goodman.

It's not a good sign when the POTUS is trashing states and voters. You have to show respect for everybody in this country if you want to lead it, whether you agree with them or not. Even Clinton and Bush understood this but it falls on deaf ears with our American Idol President.

The Mayor should have respect for the office even if he is rightly peeved at Obama. He should meet with the President and, in a respectful way, ask him "why are you in a place you told other people not to come to?".

Well go one step further. Why didn't Obama just apologize instead ?
No apology..an invite to the WH instead ?
Obama is the one in the wrong here..President or not. He's trashed Las Vegas more than a few times publically.
And in a truly amusing twist, the National Tea Party just announced that they will be holding their summer convention in Vegas. And yes, I'm sure that location was chosen very deliberately.
I did not vote for President Obama, however, I think it is disrespectful to say NO to the President, no matter what one's political belief is. If you have faith in our country, and what it stands for, and would defend her, then I think it unfitting to disrespect the Office of the President of the United States, the leader of the Free World by rejecting an invitation.
Sure, the mayor scored some points politically, but in my view, his character took the hit.

How is declining an invitation disrespecting the office? Everyone offered that chance is supposed to auto-accept?
What is meeting with the President supposed to accomplish? A photo op? If the Mayor has city business to attend to, he should attend to it.
