so parents should blow money in vegas if they are trying to save money to send their kids to college? Is that correct? Seriously ...

Oooooooooooooo ... are the lights out in Vegas now that Obama has obviously put the word out that parents shouldn't blow their kid's college funds on Vegas gambling????

And all those good tea party christians are going to Vegas and go to church between sessions right?

Yes, I agree with your statement 100%. The Mayor really should have more respect for the Presidency.

No apology..an invite to the WH instead ?

Obama is the one in the wrong here..President or not. He's trashed Las Vegas more than a few times publically.
I know and I think he was wrong to do that. Las Vegas, whether you like it or not, is part of the United States and the people there are Americans just like the people in Tulsa. They need their jobs and their jobs depend on tourist for much of the economy there. He didn't have any business saying the things he said and he should apologize for it. I don't think he really meant to attack Las Vegas when he said "You don't go buying a boat when you can barely pay your mortgage. You don't blow a bunch of cash on Vegas when you're trying to save for college."
Factually I have no argument that but he should have some sensitivity for the people that live in an area that is really hurting economically right now and not mentioned the city at all. He could have said "You don't go buying a yacht when you can barely pay your mortgage. You don't blow a bunch of cash in a casino when you're trying to save for college."
Doesn't that sound better?

Are you a mod? You have that bold handle thing going on, and a sig. Aren't you supposed to be holding yourself to a higher standard when posting? Telling people to "get lives"? Really? If I promise to act like a twelve year old, can I be a mod, too?

It's no secret that Nevada is one of the hardest hit states, if not THE hardest hit, by the economic meltdown. The President of the United States should be doing things to HELP the hardest hit states recover, not hurt them.

I give him somewhat of a pass on his first comment. The President or his handlers should have removed the words "Las Vegas" from his lexicon after that gaffe, though, and they didn't. Instead, he caused further damage to this city's reputation with his more recent remark. Why should that be rewarded? Why should we - in the state suffering the most during this recession - let that go? 'Cuz he's "your guy"? Sorry. People are losing their jobs and homes here, and Obama was elected based on promises of ending that. Not only has he not done that (and IMHO he's made it worse), but he has made disparaging remarks about our city - not once, but twice now. No free pass this time, and Mayor Goodman was right to reject the invitation.

BTW, Las Vegas is pretty heavy on religion. There are churches EVERYWHERE here, and some groups even rent billboard space. Maybe you should learn more about the cities you're insulting and the people that live there before you insult them. You know, you're really not representing the management of the site very well by insulting a city of millions - a site that's built around cities and relocation, I might add...

I don't know if they'll be going to church. But I'm pretty sure they'll be booking hotels, rental cars, eating out..you know touristy, money spending activities. Wonder if the mayor will meet with them?

It is just a photo opp for Obama. He puts down Vegas twice now wants to meet with the Mayor Goodman. Where was the apology, He just happens to be in Vegas for a Help Reid Event so maybe while he's there he will do a feel good moment with the Mayor. I wonder if the Democrat Mayor Goodman doesn't want to be associated with Obama or Reid, maybe both.

I agree, we should all go to Las Vegas and blow money on gambling so that our kids can work at Wal-Mart. Gotta keep the overconsumption ponzi scheme rolling.

Obama literally tells people to be responsible with their money and conservatives are angry about it.

Please, you have to understand the Mayor - who bills himself as the "Happiest Mayor in America" - and means it.

This is a Mayor who walks around with Vegas Showgirls on his arm and a 32oz Martini in the other - with the Gin Company paying the mayor to endorse the Gin!! Trust me when I tell you, Oscars "character" did not take a hit. Not one bit.

BUT, Oscar did what Oscar truly believes in - he stood up for HIS City - Las Vegas. You don't do nothin' to Oscars city and think you are going to get away with it. And remember; Mayor Oscar Goodman had a "previous life" - yep, he sure did. As a MOB lawyer. He was a Defense Lawyer for some of the biggest Mobsters in the Country

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) - Mayor Oscar Goodman has refused an invitation to meet with President Obama when he arrives in town on Thursday. Mayor Goodman called President Obama a slow learner after he told Americans not to blow money on a weekend in Las Vegas if they were saving to put their kids through college.

"I've got other things to do quite frankly for my constituents here in Las Vegas who rely on me to do the right thing as a mayor," explained Mayor Goodman.

Bravo to this mayor!!! Love it!!

I didn't know the Presidents job was to tell us how to spend our money. Maybe he should be the one who stops spending money like its grows on trees.
