They should be fined.

People who abuse natural resources are freeloaders who pass the cost of their consumption on to others.

Do you seriously think there are no negative consequences for polluting the air with car exhaust? GW or not.

As a side note, usually it saves money to turn off a car if it is going to be idle for more than a few seconds. Infraction fines or not.

I'm in favor of fining people who idle. It's stupid and pollutes the air even further.

This law wouldn't keep me from idling if I want to do so. I know if I need to idle my own vehicle or not.

Thank god there are still pockets of freedom and liberty left on this planet.

Up there, a no-idling law would result in frozen vehicles cluttering parking lots until Spring.

It's about the same in Minnesota and Montana and the Dakota's. A LOT of people leave their vehicles running.

I'm reminded of a guy I used to work with. Our boss was on a tear about idling the trucks ( not because of enviornmental concerns, but because of the cost of fuel). So...this guy decided to teach him a lesson.

He waited until a super cold night in upstate New York to do it. He parked the truck at a motel, where he slept warm and sound, and turned off the engine. It was below zero, so the next morning, not only would the truck not crank, all the airlines were frozen solid too. He called the boss to report what had happened when he followed instructions and shut off the engine. The cost of getting the truck thawed out and running again came to about $1000, far, far more than the truck would have used in fuel.

Oddly....we never again heard much about idling.

We need idle police at the NH tolls on I-95, when they are gagged up for 30 miles on summer weekends then...or maybe the tolls should just go away... hey that's an idea..

while i am not familiar with post 1990 vehicles i do know that not letting it warm up to normal operating temp is not only bad for the car but pollutes twice as bad due to running rich.i can actually smell the unburnt gas from the exhaust. so i warm mine up good esp in winter. must work cause no probs in over 20 yrs
