Since the movement started growing, cable-news anchors have looked for a creative and snappy way to describe just what activists were doing during demonstrations. The term of choice? “Teabagging,” which would normally describe nothing more than an innocent Earl Grey–inspired foray with Aunt Helen. Except of course, for the other meaning of “teabagging.” The one used more often in fraternity houses than tea houses. (You can read the definition at Urban Dictionary.)

Like it or not I think the name has been attached to the movement.

It's just a stupid and childish label meant to insult as opposed to engaging in legitimate dialogue with.

Seems to me that the anti-Tea Partiers finally got the message and are trying to counter with the Coffee-Party. I have problem with this however their supposed "neutral" agenda has already been hijacked by those on the left. I guess they see the popularity and success of the Tea Party and they want to try and match it. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

it is a rude a sexually explicit name that is used to try to marginalize the movement. people have such hate for a simple grass roots movement wanting to lower taxes and stop spending that they will do whatever it takes including calling the movement a sexually explicit name.
the question is why is there hate for a group that want to control spending and lower taxes? Do they favor high taxes that choke the economy and high spending which chokes future economy?
I have reported the term to CD when i see it on this board.

It doesn't have to be insult. Its peoples reaction to the term that encourages others to use it in a negative way. They need to use this term as a badge of pride and not be ashamed of it. I use teabagger because its easier than saying Tea Party Movement. Kinda like dem, lib, or repub.

I don't see the basis for any legitimate dialogue with these people. What are they protesting?

Taxes are lower under Obama's plan right now for the vast majority of people than they were under Bush. Where were these guys then?

Cutting gov. spending during an inflationary period where fed. reserve efforts have failed is a recipe for disaster, i.e., a balanced budget during inflationary periods is wrongheaded.

The size of the federal gov. is a done deal. It's huge and there's no going back to 1776.

Nothing like Dem lib or repub. Call them the tea party less key strokes then then the insulting sexually explicit term. People who use the term are the same type of people that use the N word. Both are meant to marginalize people

How much of a deficit is too much. When the Bush tax cuts are allowed to expire everyone will pay higher taxes.
in case you have not noticed we are not experiencing inflation.

How much deficit per year is enough for you. why not 5 trillion a year?
They do not protest for anything but fiscal responsibility.

Tea Party works for the movement as a whole, but cannot refer to an individual of the movement.

Example:

Are you a tea party?

Are you a teabagger?

Do you tea party?

See my point.

Also tea party takes longer to enter into a keyboard than teabagger. They are both the same length in spaces, but the way a keyboard is designed it is quicker to type in teabagger. its just an efficient term.

Also the N word is used by people in non-marginalizing ways. Its not just black people who use it. White people use it to refer to other white people, and I know white people who refer to their black friend with the N word and it doesn't bother the black friend. Its based off context.

Maybe we can agree to use the word teabagger as long as it isn't used in a marginalizing context?

This was discussed recently in the About The Forum area. Here's the thread Love the CD forum but have concerns about the term "teabaggers"

Reading that thread, it seems most people place no sexual connotation to that term, and City-Data is unlikely to ban it if used in normal posting.
